    Poor lamb.

He wanted to stay and said he was prepared to half his £123million per season over 5 year contract in order to help cut costs.

Barcelona could not and cannot afford it.

£2,365,000 per week it would have initially been.

The wages some of these players get are enough to make anyone cry

Awww bless him, I reckon he will end up at PSG for an easy ride in Ligue 1 and then finish up in the MLS.

If I understand Barcelona's situation correctly, if they re-signed Messi then wages would amount to 115% of their turnover, even without him they are at 95% and La Liga has a limit of 70% so I'd say they're absolutely screwed!

Even with Messi gone they are still.looking to move on Griezmann Coutinho and Dembele to cut a further £100 million a year off their wage bill.

Although the wages are ridiculous, he is the best footballer of his generation. And he has been a standout player for his club and country. There are other highly paid footballers that put a lot less in.

The thing is though Helen that the guy is rich beyond what he and his family could ever spend. If he loves the club that much and enjoys being there he can afford to play for free.

But that sets a precedent. In the capitalist world we live in it doesn't fit.

Or are clubs refusing to buy them? (Wage demands)

He couldn’t even if he wanted to. Barca aren’t allowed to register any players on new contracts until they get their wage bill below 70% even if Messi played for free they’d still be at 95%.

Fair enough. He can go and bankrupt PSG then.

Their decision to give him the contract though?

Hmm. I'd rather he set a precedent where kids around the world aren't pestering their parents to buy expensive shirts with his name on the back to line his own pockets but I take your point.

I'm not getting why he's the devil incarnate here. Lots of players have their names on the back of shirts bought by parents to make their kids happy. my daughter had Beckham!

I'm not saying he is but I'm certainly not buying his tears when he has the wherewithal to play for whoever he wants and remain filthy, stinking rich without earning another penny. He should just say I love Barcelona but not enough to do anything that would actually allow me to stay here.
Anyway, that's my take on it. :)

Want do you want him to do? March on La Liga and demand they change their rules? Barca can’t register him no matter what he does. They can’t register Aguero or Depay either until they sell some players. He’s been there 20 years and won everything several times with them I think he’s entitled to be upset he’s leaving.

Don’t really get the tears, he wanted to leave last summer yet now he’s crying? Surely there’s only PSG he can go to?

Barca seem to be in a heap of trouble. Inter Milan too.
