The most important thing in a successful team is to not give soft goals away. Mads, when back will make a massive difference. LWB is the only issue for me. I think Styles should be in the middle, but maybe he will be needed there, with Palmer & Benson in the middle. Need to get these new strikers integrated, as well as our starting 3. Have to say it doesn't look bad to me so far. We need 4 points from the two home games to press on now.

How different people's attitudes would be if the disallowed goal stands and we win the game 0-1, with Woodrow netting the winner! Fine margins. Having a good look at fringe players in his squad in a competitive fixture will have been invaluable for Schopp, in a cup competition we have little or no chance of winning...

We have little chance of winning any cup competition. We have little chance of getting promoted. One season in the top flight in 130 odd years. So what's the point? We might as well shut up shop if we're not going to try if the odds are against us.

But we did try. We put out a very competitive side and very nearly won. That's football.

I have to disagree. We could have put out a side that would have won fairly comfortably 9 times out of 10. Instead we put out a side that was at best on a par with Bolton...and we lost.
I sometimes wonder what's going on in people's heads regarding Barnsley. When we got to the EFL final there were some refusing to go or get excited about it because it was beneath us. Now the League Cup is either hopelessly beyond our reach or tinpot and not worth bothering about. The third tier is referred to as the ale house league so presumably being in that is beneath us. It seems we're reduced to an entitlement to being in the mid reaches of the Championship with nothing else being of relevance. Challenging for a Cup is seen as a distraction from that.
It's as if no small club ever won anything. Except on occasion they do. Even we did it once. I suspect we probably tried from Round 1 though.
