A thought just sprang to mind....

If they don't have an approved visa, they are ineligible to work in the UK. If they are ineligible, they can't get paid (surely). I'm sure they aren't near the breadline, but it can't help them being unpaid through no fault of there own.

And if the club paid them (given they were unaware of the issue) could the club be fined for doing so illegally? The club may also be providing benefits in kind as they settle.

Not being match fit would make sense. But they must surely have been at the club. Oulare gave an interview ahead of the Watford game. So if the comments are they are now training away from the club, it does give credence to the club not being aware until recently.

I do wonder, how exactly (and who) found out there was a visa problem?

But how can he know that if they aren't in training? That is presumably the party line but fans are going to take against them before they even start!

Have to agree with you Curt. This has the potential to look like one massive cfck up.
I'm not one to criticise the club when there's no evidence with which to do so but the mixed communication on this doesn't help at all.
As always we'll only know mebbe not even half of the story and now might not be the the right time for a club statement.
However we've got to hope that there's a lot of work going on behind the scenes to sort out the issue.
I've just been looking at the eligibility rules and it got me wondering whether the cancellation of the Belgian league has anything to do with Oulares situation re appearances. Unsure so whether U21 caps count for points.
Also wondering whether either of them made enough appearances last season for Liege and Metz.
The fact that we're even having to debate this and start hypothesising is farcical and disappointing.
However, as always, I'll not be judging until we have more information.

Regarding Oulares appearances its not a case of making 5, 10, 20 appearances etc it's about playing in a percentage of games available and in the wording of the document there's no minimum for the amount of qualifying games. If he was injured and unavailable for selection for all but 1 game and played that 1 technically he's 100% attendance.
However it isn't actually just simply appearance stats it's about minutes on the pitch. To get 10 points he has to play over 90% of the minutes he was available, 9 points above 80% and so on. Looking at Oulares stats for last season he played 20 minutes one game. 23 another, 22 another etc. His percentage of minutes played is extremely low so the number of points he accrued is also low.

Given that there’s pictures of Obbi training and he gave an interview prior to Cardiff, it’s fair to assume he’s been training with us.

I would guess that a club the size of ours, running on what really is a skeleton team compared to other clubs in this league, would have struggled losing the CEO and the club secretary at the same time.

Losing two important positions without a contingency plan is another debate, but I can imagine many plates are spinning at the same time and some complications that have appeared here are just that. All will be resolved, they'll both play for Barnsley, and it will just be one of those learning curves.

It could be the bureaucrats. If they're anything like the DVLA with their backlog, we'll get the OK 2 weeks before their deal expires.

The main problem for me is someone high up at the club thinks Adeboyejo, Miller, Oduor, Freiser, Woodrow and Cole is a decent Championship strike force. They also think the Adeboyejo and Miller are better than Schmidt, Simoes and Chaplin.

These Belgian lads should be Brucie bonuses.

Bit of a reach of a conclusion isn't it?

    1) We've got two strikers with pretty good pedigree not in the squad yet. So we don't think the strike force you mentioned is good enough
    2) Might be more to do with Adeboyejo and Miller getting less interest than Schmidt, Simoes and Chaplin. If you don't rate them I'm sure others might have the same opinion

I'm sure those losses will have played a huge part in this. But we were told Conway would be in place as acting CEO in the interim. The bigger issues as you touch on is lack of contingency. Or what I'd simply call, processes and systems. If we're going to have such high turnover (and we have to assume that given the last what, 5-6 years, even pre dating these owners) mapping operations is extremely important to allow future people to pick things up and allow the systems to carry the brunt. It's even more important in SME's given the lower number of bodies and high reliance on key personnel.

I'd imagine stuff like this may fall upon the Club Secretary, though frankly, the traditional role of a club secretary has been a glorified minute taker, so i'd expect that role to have been bulked out in modern times, if not, I'm not sure why Murphy would have wanted to take him to Forest. He's probably acted as an assistant to the CEO and therefore been much relied upon by Murphy.

I hope you're right on the latter point. If it's a choice for the Home Office at the point of appeal, there has to be some doubt, however minimal.

Either way. It's a very poor state of affairs that could have been managed so much more competently.

It is what it is. Someone might go on a scoring spree and the club could be in and around the Play-Offs when they make their beleaguered debuts.
