I also think that city clubs have a big advantage over such as Barnsley when recruiting match day staff , most city"s have a big student population who seem to be attracted to event employment where as it is not so often in a season where we need full staffing & employing people currently on a "as when needed basis" is going to be hard in the current working climate plus its not the most appealing job in the world.

    I run a bar!

It might only be a small one, but I've managed to keep all my staff over the past 18 months or so. They were furloughed for much of it (and I know at least one of them did some Deliveroo riding), but I suspect part of the reason they were always coming back is that we pay a decent wage and are generally a good employer.

I get that it's a one in two weeks gig, but wages and working conditions aren't something that's out of the control of the employer. It's up to them to give their staff a reason to stay.

But Brexit may have caused shortages in other areas of work that are better paid/ more hours etc etc and reverberates we had decided to take those jobs?

We’re lucky that we have segregated stands for the away supporters, for the security that is.

If the national shortage of steward is causing such restricted away fans then I’m dreading seeing all 500 (if we are lucky) of us at Stoke.

And I’m guessing we went well over our allocation at Cardiff, due to it being a singular stand stadium.

I get they are rumours, but the first two weeks it hasn’t been pleasant for the return of fans at oakwell. I don’t know who, but someone needs to sort this out. I expected 16K plus. Not 14k crowds!

Not a bad idea to have away teams supply their own stewards. I seem to recall us doing the same. Simple way to fix it though is to pay them £20 an hour, you can make the shortfall back by selling more tickets.

Stewarding has always been highly transient though as a job. It’s just not highly paid enough to make it worth while.

I mean, who else fancies stewarding the away end?? Not many!

Leeds festival next weekend too. I imagine lots of the security workers are being tasked to that rather than a few hours at Oakwell etc.

Sure, but there's one excellent way of making sure you've got enough people to do a job that isn't currently highly paid enough. It's absolutely foolproof - tried and tested!

Or are they just sitting back and hoping folk will be more desperate come January? Pretty wretched if so.

I really find this so so odd, and very poor! It’s impacting no pay on the gate for home fans as well! Nothing better than seeing a full crowd, improves the overall atmosphere!

How come no other grounds have this issue!? Places like Wigan had 4000 fans in the away end for the super league game with Saint Helens last night, and today Hull KR have sold out the away end at the KC stadium.
