Then this probably isn't the team for you. It's disappointing to drop 2 points after being in such a commanding position, and on another day, we might have killed the game off. But there were so many good individual performances today, that showed, with a bit more practice and patience, this team will be well up the division this season again. Benson appears to be the ideal replacement for Mowatt, and this style of play suits Woodrow and Frieser much more. There's questions over the subs, maybe fitness was the issue with Palmer, and Discipline with Benson, but overall, a lot of positives to be taken from that performance. In my opinion.
Spot on. Annoying to concede in last min but we have to acknowledge QPR are a good team and it would be a huge task to keep up the pace of which we played with in the first half. We did the right thing in my opinion in trying to slow the game down and make it scrappy. However, it wasn't to be our day. Some of the football in the first half was also outstanding. Can't see us struggling at all this season.
Agreed 100%. I’m going to enjoy watching this team. Just crying out for some strikers and an experienced DM
I thought we were incredible for 45 mins, then we came out second half a weird combination of cocky and terrified. Really strange game that. I'm not mad though, some of the stuff first half was sublime.
I was wowed by the first half performance and when we get our injured players back and the Belgian guys are up to speed and visas are sorted plus 1 or 2 additions I believe we will be a force and if others outside the Barnsley supporters want to talk us down let’s hope we surprise them again this season.
I didn’t see the second half, so can’t comment on any specifics, but I wonder whether losing the captain and vice captain and replacing them with 21 or 22 year olds will see us struggle to see games out. Could’ve easily conceded an injury time equaliser last week as well. On the positive side, the first half was the best half we’ve played since the second half at Bournemouth last season.
We didn't win. We should have won comfortably. Im still to be convinced by Schopp. Are certain players injured or are they not being selected?
Only some or our fans can accept been 2 nil up after been brilliant in the first then piss it up. When you do that playing well. It can get worrying. That a side. 2 more players will change things and should of been done before the season starts
I don’t think anybody has said there are no positives to take from the game. In fact not one person has that I have seen. Many, me included, think we have absolutely thrown away two points by being massively negative and far too deep second half. You have to credit QPR and Warburton for the changes, but Schopp has to react better than to just sit deep and attract them on. The substitutions highlight our lack of depth in the middle, that isn’t his fault. But it wasn’t the substitutions that lost the game on their own - it was the complete change of momentum, and that there was no attempt to press higher and turn them around. We just got deeper and tried to defend our way out of trouble. The first half was fantastic. Massively promising. But the second half was worrying, and in equal measure to how promising the first half was. We need an older head as an option in midfield, that is clear.
I wouldn't even say we need a DM, maybe a just a bit more depth in centre mid. Kane and Palmer both appear to struggle with fitness, and Styles and Benson will pick up suspensions at some stage. Moon looks a good centre half to me, but I'm not sure he's a centre mid. I think Halme could get moved on.
Yep. But if you cant see the weaknesses then your kidding yourself. The players themselves arent the issue. There is some great potential as a team and with individuals which will be realised once we can improve and fix these issues.
That 2md half barrage was always going to come, and this side will always conceded more goals than we did last season, due to the style we play. Disappointing to drop 2 points, but certainly signs to be encouraged by.
We should have won, I agree. However the dynamic was always going to change after half time. And we didn't lose. I'm not sure who else we could have brought in though who didn't play?
