CLUB STATEMENT | ONGOING ACCESS ISSUES Club News Ahead of this weekend's final home game of the opening month of the season, the Club has issued the following information. Continue reading on the official site...
Seems fair enough to me. Not sure where the arguments can come from here but I'm sure those more affected than I will find some.
I've just read the statement and all seems logical and well reasoned with safety taking top priority. Can't argue with that but I'm godamn sure plenty will.
Could they not have used the access where the away fans park for the ERV? And in turn utilising the full car park at oakwell and beevor court?
Not affected but must admit I am struggling with the total closure of one of only 2 access routes to the stadium even for pedestrians for an emergency rendezvous point. The knock on effects seem totally disproportionate - I really dont see how that works. Id love to know if other clubs are similarly affected. Also why cant it be for example on the top of Queens road which would be far less disruptive and easier to get to if Ponefract road is gridlocked which is now far more likely
The difference made by simply highlighting why they have had to do something. Outline the reasoning, and the effectiveness of your communication increases significantly.
Regarding the Beevor Court issue what has changed since the last season fans were allowed in Oakwell?
Personally I'd have preferred to hear an explanation of the situation with the Belgian lads and how we ended up with the mess we find ourselves in.....
Good to have some transparency from the club on this. One of the guys who sits near me told me at the Luton game that the Beevor Court thing was related to the Manchester bombing report and, although logical at the time, it was only hearsay. For anyone wondering why this would have an impact, one of the big criticisms of the Manchester Arena bombing was the amount of time it took for emergency services to arrive on scene. Consequently, large scale events (and yes, our games do qualify!) now have to plan for the contingency of a similar major event, however unlikely it is to occur.
They are right to think safety first. Just surprised what happened at a 20,000 arena in a city is affecting what happens in our outdoor stadium at a town where we get much smaller crowds. Since that terrible day we've had lots of matches at Oakwell perfectly fine.
Yes and I get why they have to do it. I don't think anyone has felt their safety has been compromised in the games since that we've played at Oakwell without shutting that area off.
It’s because terrorist attacks don’t have a time and date printed when they are going to happen. In this day and age the emergency services want to be prepared for the unforeseen. Hence the recommendation on the report. No one goes into the ground fearing their safety. Or any big event to my knowledge. Doesn’t say we don’t have to be prepared. Sad times and world we live in, but that’s how it goes.
Allus wondered if an access and exit to the ground from Dryden rd. off Harborough hills, could be developed. or if it’s ever been looked at. Would free a lot of congestion on match days.
I would say something will need to be developed otherwise oakwell as an entertainment venue will become unsustainable. I understand the need for an ERV point for all emergency services but they are admitting that by doing so at beevor court they are affecting Pontefract road, surely that is then causing more problems in the event of a terrorist attack or emergency?
Whoever has their paperwork is still trying to get into the ground through the Beevor Court entrance. I hope they've read this update.
But based on the article released and the people we have working at the club, shouldn't we take what they've announced rather than question alternatives like they wouldn't have considered those? On Queen's Road alone I wonder where the press and media would park, plus away fans, and how crazy busy that can get anyway. Regardless of what they did to comply with new regulations there would be pros and cons surely? No perfect scenario in this.
