I always park down near the Lighting Shop on Ponty Rd and have seen cars now parked nearly up to Beevor Court on both sides of the road. There used to be cones on that stretch. Not now. So the road is now about half the width both ways. Last week there was a dirty great lorry heading into traffic leaving Oakwell and everything ground to a halt. I presume they are allowing cars to park there to alleviate car park problems at the ground. By the way, I was told that those cones that used to be there are not police cones. I think they are club cones and as such are not official no-parking cones .... and can be ignored if you so wish. Or thrown over the wall as I have seen in the past !
Distinct lack of traffic management this season, Oakwell lane usually has cones out match days cars parked all over the other night, walked up from town for the Cov game Belgrave Rd was just a car park.
The whole saga surrounding the beevor court closing is an absolute joke no matter the reasons. There is still a problem with access because cars are now parked along the road and further up.
It does seem strange that the reason for coneing off Ponte Road on match days was to allow easier access to Beevor Court but now it’s shut off as an Emergency Rendezvous access point , they stop restricting parking on Ponte Road .
There are always people happy to find and complain about problems out of interest, how would you feel if they built a new stadium off the M1, say junction 37? I think the matchday experience would become soulless but interested to know others' thoughts.
Fair do's. I think it'd be a real shame if we left Oakwell personally. There's something about the walk to the ground and it being in the town, and all the history and connections people make with it.
I agree but I think the club has outgrown it's surroundings. The issues it faces could be easily solved by moving.
Personally I’d prefer it to stay this side of Barnsley obviously. But let’s be honest, Oakwell is rarely rocking with atmosphere, I’m not sure what a brand spanking new identikit stadium could lose in atmosphere. And the only way Oakwell is maintaining any ‘character’ is to recreate the feel of the West Stand in a modern replacement. If they just add a low rise version of the East Stand then we might as well be in a new featureless identikit stadium. At least we wouldn’t have the wind blowing the corner flags over.
Even though I've lived in Dodworth all my life, it'd probably mean it would be the end of my time watching Barnsley. I don't want to leave Oakwell for some soulless flat pack stadium not even in the town it represents. How far outside the town will be acceptable, or unacceptable? To me, it doesn't mean moving with the times. For the increased number of new fans some will claim it'll attract, how many will simply stop going because of it?
That's my feeling too mate. My parents live in Pogmoor (close to motorway) so would actually be a ten minute walk in that scenario, but I wouldn't want the club to ever leave Oakwell. I can imagine for older fans the desire to stay is even stronger.
It'd still be a no from this old dinosaur. To me, it's change for changes sake. We all have lines in the sand, as it were. This'd be mine. If you're happy to move the club out of town to, say, Dodworth, or Birdwell, what about moving just a few miles up North to Wakefield? Why stop at moving the ground? What about totally changing the strip, like Scunthorpe United did when they moved to Glanford Park? What about changing the name of the club when moving, like MK Dons did?
Purchase brewery land Big new car park. Police RDV point can be beevor court back of East stand to half way, other half towards ponty... fanzone Job done Yeah I know, easy isn't it
