I'd have to agree mate. I'd be the same walk timewise from where I am, but to not play at Oakwell would be a big thing for me. So I too am out
I reckon it would cost the club a fair few thousand fans if we moved from t'Well. I can't imagine attending again.
A bit like this. Things you do on your lunch break..... Get council involved and double up as a park and ride for the new shiny car park
Even if the club and the council weren't involved, if the current owners of the land turned that into a car park, surely they'd be minted? Licence to print money?
I would stop going. It would be like knocking your house down because the front room needed painting.
Would love that but with one change. Move the fanzone to the bottom half of the grove Street carpark so it can be a proper permanent and much bigger one. And if they want to do things on a budget buy the now flattened school on grove street and that's an ideal rendezvous point. Apparently the school is owned by the owner of bapp for bolts.
Money no object the school is the fan zone, we buy the four houses at the top end of grove Street and then at the narrowest point there's the same distance from the edge of the pitch to any other houses as there is from the edge of the pitch in front of the east stand to the back of the current fan zone. No restrictions at all on a west stand then
Personally I'd be contacting the home owners anyway and making tentative bids. The club has already said they're wanting property as close to the ground as possible to put academy lads in. Well you aren't getting much closer than there and they're hardly going to appeal against their own planning permission in the future
The thing is oakwell is nowhere near as restricted as some stadiums, there has to be some feasible options to develop and improve the stadium and infrastructure around oakwell. Suppose what it all comes down to is money and who would be willing to pay.
I thought the club had bought some of the houses close to the ground, not sure if they're on Grove St?
Not as much as if they banged hundreds of houses on it. I'm sure that's what the owners are doing - land banking.
Nope. Yes issues may well be resolved initially but as things build around it you will have many of the same problems in the future plus the link with the town diminishes. You could say the same about Anfield
The issues getting to the current stadium need to be addressed. It’s quite an undertaking for some of us.
