I don’t think that was called for. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I was only stating mine. I’m not a fan of his technique. He plays mostly with his hands and wrists with limited movement or weight going into the ball. I can see him getting out early a lot to full straight deliveries. The pair are rotating strike better though, so that’s a welcome addition. India have had a shocker of a day and havent troubled the openers enough. I’ll take that, but the openers have had the easiest ride of the series. But hopefully that takes pressure off the rest of the order and we can see more fluency and less panic than the norm. I’m not sure why shami wasnt opening the bowling, sharma has been really poor. But It’s nice to have a foothold in the series after the capitulation at Lords. It’s a start. And up to the rest of the batsman to bat India out of the game at first opportunity.
Excellent from hameed. Defended good balls, hit bad balls and got singles off some in between. Bit of luck to get him to 50, but he’s earned it. Sibley would’ve left the short wide one in the first over and the bowlers would’ve probably settled into a line and length a lot easier with him batting
50 for Burns. Looked more solid today. But we have to accept, India haven’t got the ball to do much at all. Shame!
Sometimes luck plays a huge part in cricket. On another day Hameed could have been out very early on, a couple of times. Thankfully, the India bowling has been as toilet as their batting effort earlier in the day and the batsmen haven’t been troubled much at all. Nice to see Siraj getting some stick from the crowd ;-)
So….Poor technique… very lucky… India been shocking… think I’ll just enjoy England putting in a very good performance today. It won’t always be like this so I’ll just congratulate them on doing the job they are picked for. Well done!
I was deferring to your air of superiority. Hope it hasn't been dented too much. Just come back in to see hameed gone past 50. In the passages of play I've seen he hasn't shown any of the traits you described. Agree re shami. Hope they can go on to greater things tomorrow. Plenty of bad stuff to lament so some positivity won't go amiss. Big well done to rory burns also. 120-0 unheard of!
RIP to day 4 tickets for anyone planning on going Saturday. This shouldn't be more than a three day test with the glorious forecast.
Just imagine if it had been the other way around. Still I think we just about shaded it today and are slightly ahead of the World #1 Test team. On a serious note good though today has been we need to follow it up tomorrow - if we collapse to 250 or there abouts we could still lose this test. Bat all day tomorrow and I think we have as good as won it
Thought Overton was fantastic today, my motd. Had a super day at the cricket, set me up for Saturday. COYR
no air of superiority. Purely opinions. good for Hameed he got 50, but on a pitch where India have bowled nowhere near as well as England, he still offered 4 chances. Surely that’s fair to start to form opinion on him isn’t it?
I praise. Anderson was superb. But I thought they bowled equally as well as at Lords until the brain fade with the Bumrah/Shami partnership. The difference was India’s application. It was like the Dhoni team we walloped because they couldn’t leave, then played rash chancy shots. Batting, India were poor with the ball, started off by Sharmas opening shocker of an over. 2nbs and a wide. He was all over the shop. Surprisingly though, Shami aside, they got minimal movement. Burns got in and has looked pretty untroubled. Hameed didn’t start well. He improved a little but he’s offered plenty of chances despite poor bowling, but he’s rode his luck and got a 50. It’s good to have a base and gotten the ball worn down, hopefully the rest of the batting line up can pile on more pressure and bat once. A better day with the bat, but it’s not like they’ve weathered what India’s batsmen did, but you take what you’re given. Some days you’re luckier than others. Some days you get no luck at all.
Heaven help us…… all that to just say we’ve been lucky. Somedays you are better then the opposition, some sets you aren’t.
He didn't give any chances in the passages I saw. But I listened to TMS and they didn't think they were worthy of a mention. None of the sky commentary team said he'd been lucky, they just praised his positivity. I think you formed your opinion of hameed in the previous test. I did see the 1st hour or so and it was said the wickets had fallen to good bowling not poor batting. Your credibility suffers if you exaggerate to make your point.
Three edges through the slips, an inside edge that missed leg. 4 chances Hameed gave. we bowled well, but we bowled well at Lords mostly. If you watch the wickets and ask yourself how many times did the batsmen get themselves out? How many times did they play when they could have left? At Lords, and even first test, the Indian top order left extremely well. Today they didn’t and got skittled. You might argue credibility suffers most when people comment on something they didn’t even witness.
