    Hameed gone to a decent enough ball from jadeja. Seemed to go into his shell today sadly. Need Malan and Root to see it through to lunch now.

    Bowling has improved a bit this morning. He become more defensive, but that might have been due to burns getting out. Malan got settled before the 2nd wicket fell which is a plus.

    Joe Root is a joy to watch. His run rate is so deceptive. Nudging, nurdling and clattering any bad ones. Before you know it he's at run a ball without breaking sweat.

    Losing the openers before lunch is no surprise but they lasted longer than I expected. Recent history shows our tendency to collapse after a good start and I thought we’d be two down by 1115, so well done to the boys for lasting longer.

    It will be fantastic if Malan and Root put another hundred on, and the rest keep it going for the rest of the day to rack up a lead way beyond 200, maybe even 300.

    It may or may not last... But it's brilliant watching an England side with an actual, functioning top order.

    Suddenly Bairstow, Buttler, Ali and Curran to come is a truly terrifying middle order for the Indians
