.. don’t give me excuses about the bench either. If he deems Kane and Cole not good enough for the bench based on how weak it was today, can we get rid? Waste of time if not. That 2nd half was terrible. Urgh.
Awful today. Bookmark this and hope I am wrong but we will be nearer at the end of the season to our usual championship position than the one we reached last season. Schopp has no plan B and someone has to tell him to stop them pissing around at the back. We won't keep many clean sheets playing that way. We scored our only clear chance of the game. Birmingham luckily for us missed an hatful of chances. They bullied us pretty much all game and if it was a Boxing contest it would have been stopped sooner.
Happy with the point but other than the goal we scored we never threatened a second one which is the disappointing thing infact it was men against boys at times.
If you change tactics to a style that isn't working off the back of one of our most successful ever seasons, you're going to see criticism.
If you think we can go direct like last season with a front 3 of Woodrow, Frieser and Oduor then I’m not sure what to say. Wait until we get Morris and the Belgians available.
Who would you play up front, then? With no Dike, Morris injured and the Belgians not eligible/ready/whatever-this-week's-excuse-is, what's your front line? I don't think we can play vertical football with Frieser/Woodrow/Oduor/Victor and no target man.
That's Val's style though. Cant think of another coach who does the same. And we didn't get to watch it in the flesh. I bet there would be those moaning if we had. Birmingham didn't let us have things our own way, we had to work hard all match. There are glimpses of really clever play and I reckon that as the season goes on we'll get to see longer more productive periods of that play.
I am all for trying to be like Brazil but in our opponents half. In our half get shut of it like we did under Val.
I thought we played well at some points today, ok at others and absolutely awful at others. I've seen us play much better than that but much worse too. I just hope that the manager realises quickly that we don't have the players to play it out from the back in the manner that we do. Time after time we are put under pressure by attempting to do it because the defenders don't react quite quickly enough to the short pass to them and the passes to them aren't done with enough speed meaning by the time they balls got there and they've decided what they want to do the attacker is next to them. Doesn't work so needs changing
It’s a very good point. Not only will Ismael know the technicalities of that style, he also knows how to get the players to buy into it, despite not enjoying it, if you listen to some interviews this season. I also think Mowatt leaves a massive hole in the team. Had a look at the West Brom forum and they worry that things will go pear shaped if he gets injured. Schopp needs to stop trying to partially replicate last season, and just stamp his identity on the team.
