Seriously? I rarely attend games due to work/family etc, so when did cash payments at the turnstiles cease?
What I saw was ridiculous. People with fully functional qr codes on their phones, but still trying their cards, then getting ‘receipts’ for them at the turnstiles when they didn’t work. unreal
There are ongoing issues, as communicated. Apologies for that, it's not good enough. https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2021/august/membership-card-update/ It shouldn't happen again (see article above). But I played witness to some of the aggro today, as I made my way to the pitch at around 2.45pm, with grown men screaming and bawling at young girls on the turnstiles, refusing point blank to hand over their season card, swearing at teenage girls, one was left in tears, as folk argued with others to do as instructed and so on. Which only held back queues even more. You're advised to be in your seat at least 30 minutes before kick-off. The issues with season cards have been communicated clearly. Whether that's online or via email. And the problem with queues began around 30 minutes before kick-off. Because folk like to rock up at 10 to 3, 5 to 3, and so on. Which is fine, that's a choice you make. I used to do the same back in the day. But the turnstiles were opened at 1.30pm today. And there are known issues. Not a great review for anyone involved, except the fabulous young operatives who don't deserve such grief.
Of course it would, we would have to queue but we would all get in on time, we fully expected there to be queues when we turned up at 2pm and were surprised when there wasn't, so wasn't surprised therefore when the ponty was only half full at kick off. I think the saying is "fore warned is fore armed". It's not rocket science.
Why just some games? You'd have thought once they had introduced the scheme then that would be it ? Is this the norm.... or future... with most League clubs?
Think it's something to do with having a larger away attendance but I may well be wrong. I suppose it's one less turnstile in operation when there is a shortage of events staff.
I've noticed the comments on less staff etc.... funny old carry on methinks! I just find it crappy you can't pay on the day these days(?)
Disgusting that grown men can behave like that. No excuses having a go at young people operating the turnstiles, christ it's not their fault. All fans should be aware of the ongoing issues (or they're complete idiots if not) and while granted it's not good enough if they still decide to rock up late and expect to walk straight in then it's their own fault. I have no sympathy.
Set off about 15 minutes earlier to the game. Queued for longer getting through the temporary traffic lights at Hoylandswaine roundabout at the top of the hill (not as long as it took there on the way to the Coventry game) then I did outside the ground. Social media told us the other day that for one more match there would be issues before new cards were sent to people in time for the Blackburn game. I was emailed this information too which is good in case you miss it on social media. Club kept the fans fully informed about an issue out of their hands. The majority won't want to get in Oakwell 30 minutes early as we have no incentive to with zero pre game entertainment. But for one game only getting in 10-15 minutes sooner than usual didn't harm anyone. Those working the turnstiles shouldn't be getting abused.
yep i did set off and got in my seat 30 mins before kick off. So i followed the advice and didn't have an issue today. But lets not dodge the issue here that the ongoing ticketing system is the root cause. People should be tolerant and not abuse staff. But i would hope and expect the core issue to have been fixed quicker because as stated, it isnt rocket science.
I find it difficult to accept anyone getting abused , especially because the other person is in a strop/panic!! Seems more common place this day and age too! In every walk of life!!!
Was there any consideration to delaying the kick off Andy... Rotherham had ticketing problems and delayed 15mins.
That's awful to hear, Whitey. I didn't even get that close - mad dash straight from work and got caught up in awful traffic on M62, so turned round and went home. Knew I'd not make it. What's the situation for getting season pass swapped now? Do I have to return current one somehow? Ta..
Speaking of the away attendances, we should sack Doyle's and bring in whoever Rotherham use because as a league 1 outfit even they are allowed more away fans than we are in much closer proximity than we allow them. 2500 Sheffield Wednesday fans in a local derby which inevitably requires an even higher amount of stewards and they managed it
I think it’s an SYP thing where if the away end sells their allocation it becomes all ticket. Maybe to stop away fans turning up on the day and trying to get in the home end but admittedly I’m just guessing. However that doesn’t explain the Coventry game as they had plenty of tickets left. I agree not having pay on the gate is rubbish. In a previous life I didn’t have a season ticket because of work as wouldn’t get value and occasionally I wouldn’t know until the Friday or the Saturday whether I would be able to get to the match or not. If it was all ticket all the time I would be been up Babb Creek.
I’d imagine that communication on the next step will be forthcoming during the next week or so. I’d hate to give advice at this stage and be completely wrong.
I had no probs me but was at ground 2.20pm, went in about 2.30pm Straight in, card didn't scan so he took it and gave me one of them receipts. Just hope the new card works
