    Hopefully it will be but that the significant cost increase in doing so will be passed on to those supporters who want it and use it rather than being payed for by everyone.

    Id not be so sure, tickets at Oakwell are fairly democratic, the West Stand currently costs the same as the East Stand even though there’s restrictive views and a lack of facilities.

    I think any investment that needs to be recouped in ticket sales will be shared by us all.

    But if it's installed in a completely new stand as opposed to converting an existing area of the ground, I'm assuming that the difference in cost will be negligible.

    Yep I can see it now, brand new 3000 capacity standing area....... Reduced to 1000 due to safety concerns

    I’d be fuming if they put standing in West. It doesn’t make any sense, 99.9% of us sit down in the West.

    I am all for safe standing if it means that when I book a seat I can use it to sit on. This is especially the case at away games.

    Horrible as they were, I only know of three UK crowd disasters since the war. Hills borough Ibrox and Burnden Park. I’m not counting Valley Parade as that was a fire, and I’m only counting Ibrox because there was no outside influences (such as fire) but an all seater stadium wouldn’t have prevented the disaster.
    My point is that in the scheme of things, and bearing in mind since the war, the number of games played and the number of spectators in attendance at those games, standing has always been safe.
    Having said all that, it’s just occurred to me that when they say safe standing, they might not be comparing’modern’ terracing to how it was pre all seater, they may be comparing it to people standing in seating areas. I don’t think they are though.

    Nowt going to happen at Oakwell with this title stalemate. And folk stand anyway - fans already self police it and I can’t recall any issues. Gangway 1-3 Ponty at back all stand. Folk who want to stand aim for there.

    Well no, but I do think the government took a sledgehammer to crack a nut, or had an ulterior motive. What do you think the transport system would be like if similar criteria were applied to road accident statistics for example.

    I remember standing in the old Ponty End and the atmosphere completely depended on how the team were doing.

    I mean, if it's brought back in a safe way then that's fine, but if there are increased costs attached to it then those costs should be directly aimed at the people choosing to stand in those areas.

    I don't know about that. The atmosphere when we got promoted to the premier League was the best I've heard at oakwell
