Information, guidance, advice and potential next-steps were all communicated, online and by email. It's currently a Bank Holiday weekend, but further communication will be forthcoming regards the situation. It's pleasing to read the opinions of those who attended on Saturday, as the picture painted matches the one I saw develop with my own eyes.
Once the season cards are sorted out maybe someone can turn on the printer and finally get to sending out the vouchers we were getting
I find this an odd stance: The club sent an email warning marked Urgent, and put a notice on the website. Whilst not defending any moron who ignores an Urgent email and then abuses a member of staff of their club, you’ve certainly gone a long way to blaming the club for said morons bad behaviour. The only possible reason I’d react badly to a member of the club’s staff asking for my season ticket, would be a fear they’d not give me it back cos I’d been a nob.
I’ve thought of a new way to pay. Faster than messing about with QR codes and the like. It’s a combination of small bits of paper and metal that you hand over at a turnstile or shop to pay for what you want instantly. Like any new system you need a fancy name so it’s the ‘Convenient Advanced System Hybrid’ or CASH for short.
A bizarre solution to a problem that’s not plaguing the new technology. AFAIK it’s the ‘older’ barcodes on the physical season tickets that’s at fault, whereas the WR codes work effortlessly. My ST is loaded on my watch and takes 2 button presses to scan from something I’m never likely to leave home without. Also, since the season restarted I’ve spent more ‘cash’ than I did in the previous 6 months. More or less the only reason I’m going to get cash out nowadays is to go to Oakwell.
To be fair, the QR codes work perfectly. It's the 1D barcodes on the physical cards that are the problem. I can absolutely guarantee you, paying cash on turnstiles is slower than QR. I genuinely don't understand why people who have the QR code on their phone even want a physical card. I guess some people just feel the need to have stuff, even when it serves no actual purpose. My card is still in a sealed envelope.
Can you open the email on your phone then just fill the screen with the QR code and screenshot it? Then you just have to have the picture ready at the turnstiles?
Or your car breaks down on the way, or the bus has an accident or… There’s no reason at all not to trust the technology, it’s as reliable as anything else we rely on every day. One of the weirdest things about the 21st century are the number of technophobes using the internet to announce their distrust of technology. And no sense of irony.
I wasn’t saying I distrust it. I was making the point that it’s not really any faster. Because if one person experiences a problem then it takes ages for it to be sorted out. Like the man in Greggs I was behind who spent a good 5 minutes trying to get some e-voucher to be accepted. Whether he did or not I don’t know because I couldn’t be bothered to wait. Sale lost.
The bus or the car do not give you access to the ground. If they break down you are possibly delayed but not denied ground access. All I have done is give a reason why those with QR codes on a phone may also wish to have a physical season ticket. Then of course there are those that do not have a suitable phone.
