I can’t answer that because I didn’t create the show. What I can say, and have already, is that the word is now widely recognised as an acceptable term to describe people within the LGBTQ community. Given one of the presenters of the show is non-binary, I’d assume ‘queer’ is more applicable than ‘gay’.
Got to pass the time somehow. It's not as if we can influence anything. Just a waiting game for supporters.
Perhaps less strange than someone who finds a topic strange, and posts a comment on said thread suggesting it's strange.
Think people like to draw people in to have arguments with people starting threads like this,it’s the scourge of BBS
Maybe they do. Others may like to discuss topics that perhaps broaden their horizons, understanding and mindset, and maybe evolving into better people as a result. Nowt as queer as folk though ;-)
No one's having an argument though? It's been another civil discussion, unless I've missed something?
No issue with queer being used in the correct context as an adjective or a verb - I think a lot of people avoid using it though as they fear repercussions if it is said in the company of others - same as niggardly - hardly ever used these days for the same reason
"he looks queer" "this milk tastes queer" 1st offensive 2nd not, though the latter would upset me if added to my yorkshire tea or weetabix
You’re not stupid enough to believe that the queer in that sentence is on any way related to the question being discussed.
Not many people know this !! but there is no letter 'Q' in the Welsh Language - no 'J' 'K' 'V' 'X' or 'Z' - but we do have 'ch' 'dd' 'ff' 'ng' 'ph' 'rh' 'sh' - all these 'double' letters count as one letter - that's why you've never seen a Taffy playing Scrabble. Re-location over Offa's Dyke beckons OG ??? LGBT translates in Welsh as -- Pobl Lesbiaidd - Hoyw - Ddeurywiol - Thrawsryweddol. Hey -ho !
You did read the rest as context? Smilie was to make light of the word. As korky said "He looks queer" Could. in the written word. be offensive. As he meant. Could also mean summat completely different when spoken. In it's original meaning. It's not always a given. Gay. As I say, will be frowned upon one day. Imo. Somebody will find some reason to be offended. I speak to someone very close. who is gay. And it's a minefield trying to keep ahead of what and what's not deemed offensive. On both our parts.
I quite like the descriptor that an alien species used to describe us in Star Trek once. Ugly giant bags of mostly water. Accurate.
