Now the window has done, what do we think is our strongest team when all fit ? For me: Collins Andersen - Helik - Kitching Brittain - Benson - Gomes - Styles Frieser - Woodrow - Morris Subs: Walton, J Williams, Sibbick, Oduor, Palmer, Iseka, Oulare Leaves: Halme, Moon, B Williams, Cole & Vic.
It's a difficult question to answer (particularly regarding the forwards) because we have absolutely no idea of the quality of these two Belgium lads. They could be brilliant or they could be crap. Defensively I agree with your choices and Gomes certainly adds more quality in CM. Palmer has had a fairly decent start to the season.
Collins Brittain, Helik, Andersen, Kitching Benson Palmer Frieser, Woodrow, Styles Iseka Walton, Sibbick, J Williams, Gomes, Oduor, Oulare, Halme
Yeah I think we’ll see him coming on as a sub these initial few games but I’d imagine City will want to see him as a starter more often than not.
On current form it’d be harsh to drop Palmer as he’s definitely stepped up so far but his fitness is a worry. Ideally you want your CM to be able to go full 90.
I think now we have a DM, Markus might look to change formation. ................... Collins .... Sibbick... Helik... Kitching Brittain...................... .... Styles .......... .......Gomes.................. ...Benson.................Palmer.......... ... ..Woodrow.... Frieser...............
Be interesting to see if Gomes come in for Palmer. Palmer has started really well but we were noticeably second every loose ball at the weekend. If Gomes can fix that it might be worth bringing him in. Ideally I'd like to see Styles, Palmer, Benson and Gomes play, but that won't fit in!
Harsh on Palmer. Especially when you've probably made this decision based on a YouTube video of Gomes.
It would in a 3-5-2. I think initially we'll see Palmer start and Gomes replace him in the second half. No idea about the new strikers, but Oulare sounds like he'd provide a targetman for others to play off, so probably comes into the side in the middle of the front three, with Woodrow dropping deeper, or out left. Odour dropping to the bench.
I do like the look that but all of our CM options are starting so nothing off the bench to freshen it up. We could still adopt that formation but Woodrow at number 10 with then for example, the 2 Belgian lads up front. However, if we went to 3-5-2, we have 7 forwards for 2 starting positions.
I’ve noticed during games we’ve kind of done this where Styles has dropped into midfield on attacks and Kitching drifts over to left back then defending we’ve gone to a back 5.
Or maybe he made the decision based on the fact that one of the best clubs in the world has the guy on their books and he is highly rated by pretty much all who've seen and worked with him? I do get what you're saying, but in reality the bloke is probably streets ahead of Palmer.
Worth remembering Romal Palmer was released by Man City Youth and went into our u18s. At the same age, Gomes was retained by PSG u19s and the year after moved into the PSG B team. Man City then pinched him when his contract expired. Obviously they'll have developed at different rates, but I'd expect Gomes to be at least as good as Palmer was last year.
I'm not sure I'd immediately bring Gomes in instead of Palmer. Palmer's been excellent so far this season. What sort of message would that send to him? Guaranteed to pee him off.
