Which club have you travelled to with the reds and just really enjoyed the experience with result aside? Going on friendly local fans, good treatment in the concourse, good treatment in the town/city etc
Not been to accrington but heard good things. Reading 97 was good. Tranmere always been a good experience.
Had pleasant away days at all these, not to say that it would always be so of course. Cambridge United Bristol City Aston Villa Fulham
Another vote for Fulham Always had a good day out in Sunderland - always found them to be a friendly bunch of fans - only downside is the lung busting walk up to the stairs.
Accrington. Superb. Old lady in the turnstile saying to all the people going through...."Welcome love. Hope you enjoy the game!"
Last time I was at Sunderland there was a mass brawl in the streets outside the ground - 2006/7 season I think.
I didn't encounter any home fans at Accrington, although it was a great day out. Personally, I got on quite well with a bunch of Bristol Rovers fans the last time we went down there. Had a good laugh with some Peterborough and Middlesbrough fans in the past too. Oxford at Wembley had a great set of fans too.
Burnley. Got talking to a couple of dental nurses in a boozer before game. They were so friendly I sacked match off and stayed in pub.
Another vote for Fulham - great banter with their fans in the pub pre match. Burton Albion similar - great fans. Not so sure about Bristol City, didn't see any trouble as such but the police were moving on a bunch of youths who were congregating near the away coaches last time I was there. Ipswich and Oxford at Wembley were both excellent.
Back in the early 90s I was at uni in Stoke and my mate was in Birmingham, so we went to watch the WBA - Barnsley reserves game. There were about 200 fans there and we sat behind the dugouts with all the Baggies fans. One old card asked us if we were the subs as we had our Reds shirts on. Afterwards they took us in the local boozer and we didn’t have to buy a drink all night.
