Fully onboard with the fact he's an incredible footballer, but let's be right, people earning the amounts that Ronaldo earn are able to employ the best accountants available, these professionals don't make mistakes to the tune of €18m, they purposefully and methodically look for loopholes in order to save their client money, often at the clients request.

Great footballer, not a great person. As a result, not someone I'd want my kids emulating.

Well aye, he's made at least 1 international appearance. Pretty sure that was the criteria when we were signing Dike.

    Yeah right

I’m sure 99.99% of people on here would want their kids to emulate Ronaldo

As for the so called tax evasion you can guarantee every big name footballers financial advisers will be looking at ways around the system, Neymar , Marcelo , Messi and Alonso are just a few of the players that have fallen foul on the Spanish tax authorities

I'm sure they are, which is why I don't really put much stock in trying to emulate anyone. Just be a good person.

If you want your kids to skirt the wrong side of the very hazy grey line of tax fraud, then crack on.

that wasn’t the issue regards our Belgians. They already had been given approval. The issue was in timing to receive

I understand that, I was just under the impression that, had our Belgian lads made an international appearance, they'd have received their visa's sooner.

    Who knows.

And obviously he is not a good person because probably unknown to him his advisers have tried to pay less tax than he should have done

Let’s forget about him being the most charitable sportsman ever

Millions of euros to build schools in Gaza

Millions given to build hospitals in Portugal

Millions given to save the children, UNICEF and world vision over the years

Yep , definitely someone I wouldn’t want my kids to grow up like

Ha, ok. Donating to charity is done for tax purposes it also improves his brand/image. It's not like he can't afford to donate those kinds amounts is it?

Look, you can dress it up however you want, but tax evasion is essentially stealing from social projects, education, domestic security and health care. I have no time for that. Pay your fair share or you're nothing but a crook.

Admittedly, my job colours my opinion a bit but I do love it when a file lands on my desk and I'm able to find evidence of fraud.

So donating to charity and things like salary sacrifice are essentially legal loopholes of paying less tax

do you honestly believe CR sits down to work out his own taxes and then directs his accountants to try and save him a few quid?

I think his positive points far outweigh his negatives but unfortunately there are always people that just don’t like him for whatever reason. A model pro, a model person, kids could do a lot worse than trying to be like him. Just my 2 pence worth

It's hardly a legal loophole considering it's perfectly legal, but combined with the goodwill it generates it generally has a positive net effect on the donor (sponsors love a "good" guy).

...then if you can employ creative accountants to reduce your taxable footprint even more, well then you're laughing.

No, I don't think he has the brains to do that, but I do think he has a raft of advisors that are in his ear saying that they can save him a metric fu ck ton of money but it's best not to ask any questions to maintain deniability.

So if it’s legal to find a loophole to pay less tax you are happy with that , even if it’s essentially stealing from social projects, education, healthcare and domestic security

Erm, whether I'm happy with it is irrelevant, it's legal.

I think you might be getting tax evasion and tax avoidance mixed up.

Ronaldo was being investigated for tax evasion. That's the illegal one.

Evasion, avoidance Still less tax pad than what should be

Obviously we are not going to agree on whether he is a suitable role model or not but I certainly hope your kids live up to your expectations
