I hated Keith Hill. The gum chewing arrogant knob. Also had a major dislike for Nigel (27 midfielders) Spackman and Steve (havent a clue) Parkin.
I’m with you on being positive and ambitious etc but surely the budget is a fair reason to be lower down the table. I think we have to be realistic. Obviously hope/dream etc but there is a financial reality to where we are. I have sympathy to some extent to all of our managers in the championship because they are fighting a losing battle as we will have amongst the lower budgets in the league but expectations are above that. it’s the same reason as much as I think he was a top bloke stendel benefitted from having one of the top budgets in the league. And of course that doesn’t take away from the job he did but it just places it in context.
Sure there were some duds in that window but we did sign Mads, Collins, Sibbick, Oduor and Halme for not a great deal of money.. All of whom are (or will be) regularly involved this season. Add that we also signed Diaby and Chaplin who have also been important 1st team players in previous seasons it was hardly as bad as some made out. Ok.. not the best ever but it was definitely up there.
I agree. Think he actually got too carried away (not surprisingly) with the excitement of having achieved promotion and the anticipation of the new season.....and, in retrospect, it wasn't such a bad haul when you look at the players we bought that summer.
Yeah and then wasted loads on Thomas & Wilks and Schidmt (who at least gave us some return) alongside selling Moore and Lindsey. Again just think it’s daft making claims like that when we are only 5 games in. We could finish rock bottom and he’s going to look a bit of a tit then or we could finish top. He just doesn’t know what yet and I think it’s just better to keep the fact you have done a great job to yourself and let the results speak for themselves.
Parkin and Davey my least favourite. I realise Davey did some good for us, I just didn't like the fella.
If the higher profile signings click we will be in and around the play-offs. I think there are a few who aren't certain starters when everyone's fit. That can only bode well. Woodrow, Brittain, Freiser will all be looking over their shoulders once the Belgian lads are fit. There's Morris who is too good to be left out. Jordan Williams gives Brittain a run on current form. Remy Vita for Styles. Gomez for Palmer. The team could be completely different in 3 weeks.
Challenge for top6 wats he smoking. Manager, backroom staff and captain gone. New manger in, DK gone back. Morris injured. 5 or 6 new players in whom ive never heard of. To me 21st or higher is our season
We need options off the bench & competition for places. We haven't had that thus far & we are still mid table. Will take new players time to bed in, so could be a few disappointments at first, but hopefully we'll start to climb. How far, we'll have to wait & see.
This business of assuming that players we've never heard of are rubbish. Is it the same principle that means that food you've never heard of tastes horrible? Or bands/songs you've never heard before are garbage? Or holiday destinations you've never been to are not worth visiting? Maybe the club should publish a list of all professional football players in the world at the start of every transfer window, so that people can't claim to have never heard of a new signing. Provided they actually read the list, of course.
