Toro Rosso and Red Bull are sister teams. Mercedes only “loaned” Russell to Williams, if that is why you were asking.
It's Alpha Tauri now (Toro Rosso). Still a Red Bull team. Williams use Merc engines and Russell was part of the Mercedes Young Driver programme. Strange thing is, Alex Albon was a Red Bull youngster, and ended up driving for them (not very well) and now he's apparently taking Russell's seat at Williams. Funny old carry on.
I think it will happen but Toto has reservations about a Red Bull contracted driver being in a Mercedes. I think his preference would be Nyck De Vries.
I think they still want him in a Red Bull one day but Gasly surely gets that seat first (again)? I think I’d prefer Nyck De Vries in the Williams seat. He’s another Mercedes driver so would make more sense, in my opinion.
Definitely, he’s been incredible since the demotion. I’d like to see him in a Mercedes, maybe when Lewis is done, rather than being Max’s number 2 but that will never happen.
I'm not seeing De Vries as a viable option long term . At 26 he's 4 years older than Albon who I see as a better fit . Also he only just bet latiffi to the F2 title a few years back so not overly convincing . Obviously there's the whole Merc / red bull rivalry which will sway the decision but if I was Albon I'd leave red bull and go for it . Never did sainz any harm ....
Now been confirmed. Sounds like Red Bull has some options on his future so interesting dynamics there, but nice to see him back in F1 after being treated like **** IMO by Horner (like Gasly was and others). Nice also to see George was keen for him to get the seat and put a good word in for his pal Alex.
