But ultimately, I'm not arsed. If you can't see the value of the technology now then you will in a couple of years.

I understood that you were just trying to break it down in layman terms that people might be able to absorb much easier. Just trying to make something that is quite niche and daunting an accessible subject.

Yeah, I have kids of that age who choose to spend money on that. When I saw that it didn't enhance your gameplay or anything, I thought 'what a rip-off'. But I get it now (although still feel the prices are ridiculous). If you've got items from an early season that it gives you an OG coolness and social capital in that particular space. A bit like me having Optimus Prime in 1985 or whenever.

With NFTs they are often unique and have provenance forever on the Blockchain.

In terms of them being niche, well now leading fashion houses are going into designing digital apparel for social media at the highest end of the spectrum

If someone like Marc Cuban is talking about them then I usually sit up and listen. He had the Dallas Mavericks accepting doge as currency a long time ago.

You're exactly right on the Fortnight/Gaming world comparison. Kids go nuts trying to be the first to unlock limited edition features for kudos. Like being the first to get the special edition Jordan's.

Exactly. If you're interested in checking out sporting examples , then look at NBA Top Shot, in Basketball and Sorare in football. Basically you can purchase moments of play (like an amazing goal etc in nft video clips.) So in theory you could be the owner of Adam Hammill's goal at Wembley Vs Millwall in the nft world.

I am torn between the terrible neoliberal inclination to marketise package and value every element of human emotion of experience... And the fact that these things are really cool and that humans , particularly men (from the days of collecting pictures of players in cigarette packets) are neurotic and insatiable collectors by nature I feel

Ha, ok, I'm pretty sure we're not mates.

I can't see how owning something that's not tangible can be anything else but a gimmick. You can try and explain the benefits as much as you like, but it will remain worthless to me unfortunately.

And finally, I'll comment as I see fit, although I'll definitely make a concerted effort to avoid replying to yours in future.

    Thanks.

Have you read this back in the context of the conversation? Way over the top response to someone not being that way back to you at all. Massively uncalled for.

    Was it?

It was a massive assumption that I've not read the previous comments. I responded in kind.

I'll steer clear of your comments in future too.

    Hope that helps.

I actually just enjoy a good discussion. I'm not completely in favour of these developments as I hopefully made clear. It always amazes me the reaction on both sides when these kinds of new technologies come up in conversation on this board. I seem to come off as more zealous and evangelical in the face of what I perceive as reactionary/ conservative dismissals. If they're based on something thought out then I'm happy to discuss, but if it's just thoughtless dismissal it irks me.

I mean it's true to form for lately, but if it wasn't intended to come across that way it's definitely how it did.

We're not in a playground. When someone casually uses 'mate' do you really open your reply with 'we're not mates'? Making something seem hostile that was just a discussion. Especially by ending it your post how you did. Just no need for it on a subject such as NFTs.

If you purchased it, would it no longer be readily available elsewhere, eg YouTube? If not, what's the benefit of purchasing it? I saw that the 'Charlie bit my finger' video was being removed from YouTube to be sold, but has since gone back on there.

You've piled in here, without a clue what you are talking about. Someone has kindly tried to explain it to you. Eventually resorting to laymans terms and you've had a go at them for it.

    Not a good look.

But... The last time I felt like not bothering like trying here as a result was in the Brexit debates. Same kind of feeling sadly. I'm a part of that 'metaverse' (who call the mainstream world 'normies' or 'muggles' ironically) which is ridiculous, but I see how they come up with those terms when you try and explain the basic idea appeal and get accused of shilling gliders on fortnite

Yeah , good question. These particular projects buy the rights- so Sorare has Serie A, other leagues and I believe the Championship coming. So they have to have the copyright. Then it's stored on the ethereum Blockchain in this instance- a ledger of transactions which is immutable and open for all to see. So yeah it would be exclusive

But- it would still be on YouTube or wherever else . It's not like no-one else can view it. That's the bit you have to get your head around. Like- ok I have this beautiful digital artwork. But anyone else in the world can look at it on their screen. It's not like trad. Art where you then lock your Manet in the basement. But you are the owner - can display it in galleries - virtual realities ones will be a big development. You own the rights of reproduction so you could sue someone for making copies etc

Hang on, why is having an alternate opinion on something "not having a clue"?

I understand the mechanics but I don't see any worth in it. That's my opinion.

I offered my thoughts, got told that was "disappointing" so I replied in kind.

This BBS is a topsy-turvy world...

If anyone is interested in knowing more I'd really recommend watching videos like the one I posted earlier in the thread. Then even if you still feel it's a load of bllcks at least you'll see the idea, trend etc

That's not how you approached your replies at all. Very disingenuous to suggest this based on what you replied with.
