I thought the system was supposed to stay the same but the head coaches are interchangeable?

the press is supposed to be the continuation I think, how it's employed has been different with each manager . Paul Conway said he wanted to provide attacking football.

After losing big Val who would you have gone for?

Yep, a number of posters on here said it was hard to watch and they didn't like it. Wonder what they've got to say now.

I really liked Vals style… not for the purist, but wow it was exciting and entertaining!

We didn’t press yesterday, or if we did it was not as a unit. It has to be a team press, not one or two players.

This is it. Remember Bournemouth away last seaaon. Val ripped into them at half time, saying he'd not be travelling 5 hours each way on a coach to lose and what a second half performance it was. Now we supposedly have our new head coach who's only 7 league games into his tenure sat in the ******* dugout at half time!!!
We may have lost some players but if Val had still been here we would not have seen that weak performance yesterday.

As per my thread yesterday, I'm giving him until league game 23 to show what he can or can't do!

I was one of those. I still say I found it hard to watch. I don’t get the point tbh.

The five subs was THE thing that made it work. This season even Val couldn’t play Val’s system. The reduction in the number of subs has necessitated a change in style, whether the change has to be from one extreme to the other is up for debate. You’d have thought there’d be a middle ground to find rather than throw the baby out with the bath water.

I don't think it reflects well on the intelligence of people who are writing off Schopp already, after seven matches, a depleted squad and a changed squad.

That said, I do find it bizarre in the extreme that anyone would come in, see what Val had done, what he had demonstrated to work and think, I'll change that. It's like a team discovering a hidden tomb full of archeological treasures but the new team come in and dig elsewhere because they prefer to dig over here. People who think the phrase "standing on the shoulders of giants" would be improved if it was "leaping off the shoulder of giants, plummeting to the ground so I can climb up his leg my own damn way." Not quite as catchy I would say.

Yes, there are not five substitutions this season. But adjustments can be made to account for that without changing everything. By the way, is it just me that as a fan would prefer the spectacle of seeing more players, giving more players pitch time, seeing greater changes in shape? I think it is a real loss to revert with little benefit.

Yes, some teams had worked out how to exploit the tactics, hitting us down the wings. But a little variety would have sorted that, only using the ultra direct approach against teams like Bournemouth where Barnsley really need to disrupt and level the playing field. And when we say that the tactics had been found out, the lads still managed to pile on the points regardless.

Just as an example the team that won 4-1 at Wigan in 2016 pressed them to death, played great football and won with a magnificent display. It is possible to press and play good football.

I cant give it that long, sorry but the performances need to improve and fast some of the worst we have seen for a long time, added with no fight players looking lost. 1 win in 7 games isn't good enough not sure he's lost the dressing room yet but ive seen alot of bad warning signs between schopp and the players and if he was in the dugout by himself for alot of the half time after a 1st half like that its very worrying.

I'm thinking about managers in general and tbh while some were obviously worse than others I still did my job regardless. And I've never once seen a rubbish manager dismissed, the workers were expected to like it or lump it. I doubt Schopp has list the dressing room, he never had it as he's only been here a short time. Gaining belief and trust comes with time.

It’s exactly how we are getting done this season too. The amount of chances we give other teams with a simple ball across from one wing across the box is criminal. Blame the injuries all you want but if you haven’t got the personal you adapt the side to get a result not blindly continue with exact same failing tactics.

Does Dave Bassett fancy coming out of retirement?

Even if we reverted to the tactics of last season I don't think we would see the same results. The mentality of the players isn't the same, the problems are behind the scenes in my opinion.

Its difficult to see what the owners actually want now' before we brought in Ismael the blueprint was the high intensity press then Val implemented the long ball system now we have Schopp adopting the possession game' playing out from the back, BADLY...
