is football going to get cancelled next, you hear more bad language and chanting there, if your off to see Chubby you know what it entails
Poor isn't it. He's not my cup of tea but because of that I don't go watch him. The idea of cancelling something or someone because you don't like it yourself is mad. It's like when people complain to Ofcom about a TV show when it's very easy to change the channel and watch one of the hundreds of other channels available.
The council can't win with this one in my opinion. On one hand they will get flak for booking a racist comedian, on the other they get flak for not allowing him to perform. He's from a bygone era and that's where his comedy should remain. Continuing it just keeps the problem going and condones it, as we have seen recently over the summer with racism still a problem in football. Society has moved on from the Bernard Mannings and Roy Chubby Browns.
its only September, the show is not while January 29th, he will not sell out anymore IMHO, but should still go ahead ,there are 34000, on petition to get it back on
I don't know what his show consists of these days, so I don't have the information to offer an opinion either way. I would never go and see him back in the day as he always had the whiff of racism around his act - but thats the point, if you don't want to risk begin offended don't go, but having said that, you can't just say "if you don't like racism just don't go to the local Klu Klux Klan meeting." Clearly that sort of sht has to be stopped.
Best publicity he could have had , he couldn’t afford the publicity Sheffield Council have afforded him . If he’s only sold three hundred tickets now and then allowed to do the show it’ll be a near sell out and put hundreds more in future shows imo.
It isn't the council that have cancelled the show, it is the City Hall trust. Tickets have been on sale for over a year
just watched a clip of his act now, here's one of the jokes "I am a bit sad tonight,I have just had to turn off the wife's life support machine , ..........................the fridge ,(people laugh). dont laugh shes a fat lovely person" he as a really good comic delivery ,but is that sexist, fattest??, or just funny and not to be taken seriously?
He's made a career out of being controversial and now he's pissing and moaning about the consequences of that. The whole point of going to see a film, comedian, band is to enjoy it but for that to happen you need to connect with it or you just get turned off from it. Having someone up on stage like him just gives people the green light to hold those views too and share them in public. It condones racism, homophobia, sexism... He's way beyond retirement age, time he packed in and accepted that the world is a different place now.
Don’t worry this govt. are trying to get rid/dilute bodies like Ofcom that are there to highlight and make accountable service providers for their actions or inactions. What a truly lovely society we live in when a govt takes action against independent bodies from calling out things.
Many, many years ago I went to see him at Blackpool. I’d never seen his show at that point but my mates had and thought he was ‘the man’. I came out and turned to them all and said if he kept certain aspects out like swearing every other word his delivery/jokes would be funny.
he is 76 ,500,000 people in U K are still working past age of 70, should they all pack in too, give young people their job, selfish old people, or still in need of money to survive ?
I've been to see him twice and thought he was ***** both times. Nothing to do with race etc. You know what you're getting when you buy a ticket. He just re-hashes old material. If you like him and find him funny as I did. Buy a DVD or watch him on youtube it's cheaper.
Yeah that's definitely the angle I was going for. Not the fact that he was a comedian who wasn't appropriate for 2021 as society is not as racist as it was in the 1980s. What a terrible society we live in. Can't even go watch a racist, sexist, homophobic comedian anymore without the PC brigade spoiling it...
