But when you replace them both with 21 year olds, you lose a lot. Val also had matty james as he was getting started.
I was very disappointed with how yesterday went; we deserved nothing. There are another 40 matches left though. Seems a little early to be writing off the coach, the tactics and squad after six games. But it’s a game of opinions. We all have different levels of tolerance. One man’s version of patience isn’t uniformly shared by all. So what will be will be. Sunday dinner soon though. I’m sure we all accept that’s a positive!
Although yesterday was a horrible watch and to me the body language was poor from the minute Bournemouth went in front i still won’t judge us too harshly until the injuries clear up and the new lads get up to speed but that might be mid October unfortunately.
He mentioned Sol. It’s known as well that Val never fancied Matty James - I would guess we might have never signed him in the first place if he had more input. Interestingly, have people forgotten how powder puff and lacking fight and energy we were away at Cardiff in Val’s early days? 3-0 defeat without nearly as many first team players missing. We moved on then and can move on now, but the circumstances this time around make it a more difficult task until we’re really fully up to speed squad wise.
Matty James was never our player and only played under val a few games very rarely lasted a full game. And I did mention sol.
All the players you mentioned plus James represented our experience. We have gone from 4 experienced players to 1 in Woodrow. In terms of organisation that’s huge. It makes the new managers job very difficult
Whether he fancied him or not he was an experienced player that we lost and failed to replace. We have lost all the experience on the team other than Woodrow. That makes the new managers job harder a point he alluded to when he asked for experience and was ignored. At the minute 4th bottom seems achievable. and given the upheaval will probably be good enough.
Compared to the team that ended the season we’ve lost Mowatt and Solbauer. Big losses but we’ve now got an International CB who went to the Euros and players like Madds who of fit would be approaching 100 games at Championship level. You can’t discount the experience gained from having played a full season of successful Championship football, but I admit I think we’re one more older head short. Just pointing out its not as vastly different as people like to make out except Mowatt.
To be fair alot of the squad has championship experience look at anderson when he's back this will be his 3rd season at this level same with collins. Matty James wasn't our player and hardly played under val and we didn't do too shabby after he left. Woodrow isn't playing like the most experienced player and not sure he's captain material. I wouldnt be against bringing in a experienced loan but we didn't I wouldnt have been against appointing a more experienced head coach either
My concerns at the moment are not merely the results, but the selection of the first eleven, the composition of the bench (not wood versus steel), the use of substitutions and the quality of play. If we can address these four areas, results will improve.
Totally agree. Not just for the fans to get to see more players, but to keep the larger squads we use these days happy, and match fit.
If it’s true that he spent the half time in the dugout then I’ve lost all respect for him and he needs to get gone. Pathetic behaviour.
Don't wonder about it. Read @churtonred post above. Sums it up pretty well. As I said many times last season, I'm as fickle as the next fan, so while I hated some of the football we played, I'd take the results without hesitation. It's not binary - there are many options between hoofball & tippy-tappy.
Thankfully we're not playing tippy tappy so I'm hoping once we get settled, fit, and players return we'll get something that's enjoyable to watch and gives us results. I still think anything within four places of 12th is a positive season for us.
Hopefully. I doubt it would happen, but I'd like to see Gomes, Palmer and Benson in a 3-5-2, with Styles and LWB, assuming Vita is still unavailable.
