Exactly this. I don't get the secrecy about someone getting covid. Why don't they want people to know straight away? It's not a family death or finding out you've cancer.
You're probably right, old mate. But it doesn't excuse people making up or spreading rumours, nor lying.
Why do you feel like you have the right to immediate and full details of an employee of the club's medical status?
Surely your own health is your own business? Not really for any of us to say that he should or shouldn't be divulging confidential information.
I find it perfectly understandable why a positive Covid test would be kept secret with everything going on in the World of sport right now. Also there's two different types of test. Who's to say he didn't take one and was waiting on the result of another? No need to go public on that when opinion out there is how it is. Is that now two rumours completely put to bed. They always come in threes........
Your right it doesn't. How it went from a positive covid test to a fall out, I've no idea. Certainly been a bit of mischievousness gone on. I get why the club may not want to try and think of every reaction possible and guard against it. On this one though, it's a fairly open and shut case. Still doesn't excuse the rumours though I accept.
Didn't have to mention covid. Could have just said, unavailable through illness. Everyone's happy then I suppose. Illness is widely reported in most if not all cases amongst loads of clubs
Schopp: "With Josh Benson, he tested positive (for COVID) Friday, then negative, then positive again on the Saturday morning, so we couldn’t have him with us. But he’s feeling okay and the symptoms aren’t bad so we hope he recovers from the virus at home."
Players and staff are tested every day. Before travelling on Friday everyone had a lateral flow test. Josh's said he was positive, so then you need to take a PCR and wait for that result. That takes a fair while. That came back negative. But then on Saturday morning he took another that later that day came back positive. This was going on away from employees of the club, who were all in Bournemouth remember, with a game to play, jobs to do. So even by full-time, nobody was certain on anything, just 10 minutes after the final whistle. Hence Markus saying he was unavailable the last two days (Friday and Saturday) but hopefully okay for Wednesday. Because at that point, we weren't aware of the final positive test. Nor were we aware of Josh's own feelings on the matter. We can't just say he's got COVID (even if we'd known at that time) without asking his permission. And none of that is easy to solve directly after a game of football when you've journalists questioning you. Josh is doing well and let's hope he gets better soon and can be back on the field ASAP.
The only thing I was certain of at Full-Time on Staurday was we'd lost 3-0 and my fridge was running low on stubby bottles of Aldi French Lager. I hope Benson makes a speedy recovery.
