At the moment even in the unlikely case you are caught using your mobile whilst driving, its a £100 fine. Simple answer. Instant forfeiture of your mobile phone. It then gets re-cycled and sold at auction which funds extra plain clothed patrols to catch more. You either buy a cheapy to see out your contract or fork out a grand to replace your iphone. As a balance you have 28 days to appeal to the magistrates to get it back.
I think thats max with a court appearance, could be wrong. Think standard is £100 fine with 3 points, somebody will surely but in and put us right. Hope you get my point though, the phone going is the issue
I had one the other day, a youngish lass sat at the traffic lights doing her bloody make up and when the lights went green she didn't have a clue!! Got on the horn and she **** herself!
Speaking of bad driving I have a message for the absolute tool in the black astra (I think) coming up the M1 at half 6 tonight. I hope you die before the night is out. Better you than an innocent person
Them using their phone doesn't risk multiple people's lives. Bennett could be out in 2/3 years and literally get awarded with a football contract again, that's how young he'd still be. Ridiculous, feel so sorry for the victims family, no justice at all.
Or an immediate year's ban from driving. Do it again, two years, then three, four, five. It's not like speeding, when I accept there are slim grounds in certain situations and so points are perhaps an acceptable solution (although ideally I'd suggest the same punishment if you're more than say 20 above the limit) . You just should not be on your phone at all while you're driving, and I don't know why we're messing around giving people so many chances. Driving isn't a right. You're essentially in sole charge of a lethal weapon, and there should be huge responsibilities attached to being allowed to continue doing that.
No police issue a standard £200 fine and 6 points IMO it’s should be a 90 day ban if caught that will affect people more in the long run
It's ridiculous! See it often. Fortunately I've never harmed anyone but I did learn a lesson when I was late for work one morning. I was 10 minutes later than usual on my regular drive in. It was pisssing it down but for some reason I really didn't want to be late so I stepped on the gas, went round a blind bend (that I went round every morning), lost all control of vehicle and crashed into a low wall and car spun out and did a 180. The car settled in the middle of the road, a total write off and thankfully no oncoming traffic. On the other side of wall was a river, so I'm glad I bounced back! I could have died, and thank God I didn't hit anyone else as I couldnt live with myself. I've only lost control of a car that one time, and it was the most terrifying moment of my life. I learnt a valuable lesson: don't stress if you're ten minutes late for work, and respect the power and fragility of a car.
