I agree, the football is pretty slow & ponderous & we haven’t got a fit side. I just think there’s huge mitigating circumstances as to why that is & that it’s encouraging that we are matching some decent championship sides whilst so depleted.
Agree. I don’t think I’m better than anyone on here. You aren’t either. It’s not something that needs saying. I just feel like this place is going very Wednesday-esque. One superb season where everything fell into place & it seems to have raised everyone’s expectations.
Just 2. Yesterday and Cov. Watched the rest on i follow apart from Bournemouth when I was on holiday.
I agree with most of what you’re saying. I’m not particularly entertained, we aren’t creating many chances, it isn’t high pressing football etc. I don’t think we’ll ever see high pressing football to the extent we saw it last season. I think the forwards bought into the ‘kill yourselves for 60 minutes & then we’ll swap you’ mentality but we can’t do that with 3 subs. Yes I’d like to see us press more but I don’t think we have the fitness to do that yet. I just think he’s got a very difficult job for probably another month or so until the squads settled down & up to speed & then I believe we’ll start to see far better results. I do think the missing players make a huge difference to us. I thought Carlton Morris was outstanding last season & we’ve got no physicality up top currently. Hopefully Oulare will give us that too but I can’t bank on him delivering as I’ve not seen him play. I think any 2 of Benson, Gomes & Palmer in the middle will do a better job than what we’ve seen up to now & I think having Anderson & Kitching alongside Helik will make us a far better side especially in playing out from the back quicker. Nothing against them but I’m pretty sure Moon, Halme, Hondermarck & Adeboyejo won’t be getting minutes in a months time as we’ll have far better options available.
Strikers available yesterday: Woodrow, Iseka, Cole, Frieser, Adeboyejo, Thompson. Person played as a striker: Left back That's my issue. odour will not be a right sided striker as long as he's got a hole in his arse. On the Woodrow subject, I do understand your point but that doesn't explain the regularity with which we aimed our throw-ins to his head either. It's his biggest weakness and yet for some bonkers reason it's the most common ball we are putting to him this season
You going by scoreline or everything that happened in 90 minutes? If that donkey up front for them didn’t miss four chances and was running in treacle, game would have been over at half time. They turned us over.
i do think we were sterile. Didnt look brave enough to try to get behind them and happy to play in front of their defence. Midfield shape looked off and we weren't playing those diamonds to keep the ball often lacking balance and looking lightweight. However i put it down to players adjusting to the new formation and the team still being light in depth. It was hot yesterday too. I think another 4-5 games especially with the main squad members back will give us a better idea if we can develop on this slower passing / possession style as opposed to high press / direct spells of impact.
Can go by everything that happened in 90 minutes if you like. 10 shots to 7. 71% Possession v 29% XG stats: 0.9 vs 0.9. Like I said, they beat us. They didnt turn us over.
I wasn’t sure about Oduor as a forward at the start of the season & I’m probably not now but he showed more yesterday than any of our other forwards & I thought he was very good at QPR. He probably won’t be playing much up top when everyone’s available but if the back ups are Adeboyejo & Thompson you can’t really moan at him playing there in my opinion. Woodrow’s not good in the air, he isn’t physically strong but he’s better than any 2 of Frieser, Oduor or Iseka at it so the only alternative until Morris & Oulare are available is to play Adeboyejo but I’d take everything else Woodrow gives us over Adeboyejo been better when receiving a throw in.
We’ll beat everybody in possession this season with the way we play. Barcelona and Man City win in possession. We’re Barnsley Football Club. 55 passes in the 18 yard box from a goal kick contributes towards possession stats. Haven’t got an argument regarding the shots as I didn’t realise we hit double figures. Ahh well, just beat and not turned over then. That’s good news.
Not really sure what point you're trying to make. We agree Luton didn't turn us over though, so I'll leave it there.
Brittain in central midfield, continuing with failing strikers when Cole hasn't even had a sub appearance, substitutions at half time which I also find strange. Just comes across as indecisive and that he himself isn't 100% sure what he wants. This must have an effect on the players.
Ok. So how poorly did you think Brittain played and who would you have put there instead? How do you know Cole is better than the options being used? How excited were you when else signed him? Considering the Head Coach has already said he needs to see more from him. Not sure where indecisive comes from. Making a double substitution at half time seems pretty decisive to me! We used to laud over Val when he did it (before the results started being so frequent and we were flying up the league).
We played the high press with 3 subs in League One and the style of play had been decided before the Morris injury and Belgian visa problems were known.
