I would have had styles and gomes in the middle, round holes round pegs. We don't know how good he is, but considering our other forwards displays I would have thought he'd be worth a shot. Val's substitutions actually improved the team and performance, cant really see the reasons for Schopp's changes.
Who would you have played at LWB once you’d moved Styles in to midfield? You think someone is ‘worth a shot’ yet you’re going on and on about baffling selections. You don’t watch training or taken on board what the Head Coach is saying to the press. If we’re resorting to starting players on this basis then we’re doomed to finish bottom. Which we’ll be nowhere near come May.
Ryvita in at LWB, otherwise what is the point in signing him? So you would just persist with absolute garbage performances up front and not give everyone a chance? It wouldn't be a baffling desicion to me if a different striker was given a chance.
I’m just trying to work this through mate, nothing more. Yesterday we played Styles, one of the best LWBs in the Championship last season, at LWB - probably because his performances from central midfield have been poor so far this season despite a majority (me included/@Fonzie excluded) thinking that’s his best position long term. The alternative was a kid from Bayern Munich who’s never kicked a ball for a first team and has been in the country about seven days, who none of us know anything about. Why sign him? Because once he’s properly trained with us and got himself match fit I’m guessing we think he’s a decent footballer. Brittain stepped in to central midfield as a result, a position Val used to sometimes move him to by the way when making substitutions. Argument you start Hondermarck, but I think it’s a failed one considering why we signed him, his own first team experience, and his own fitness. Put Halme there? Sure. But who’s then filling in at CB. Sraha? So we’ve got two Academy lads playing with Helik about 18 months ahead of schedule? As for Cole. Considering the stick he got for the cameo against QPR I can’t believe this is being used as evidence for Schopp being ‘baffling’. Agree our forward play leaves a lot to be desired right now but you’re reaching by saying ‘absolutely garbage performances’. There’s work to be done for sure but you need a midfield to also have a front line. And we’ve been missing over 50% of both on a regular basis.
I probably lost the plot a long time ago to be honest, but 1 win in 9 games is bottom 5 form so it looks like a must win to me even at this early stage.
We had seven points at this stage last season. Then finished 5th. It's not about how you start, but where you finish. Our last dozen second tier finishes: 20/21: 5th 19/20: 21st 17/18: 22nd 16/17: 14th 13/14: 23rd 12/13: 21st 11/12: 21st 10/11: 17th 09/10: 18th 08/09: 20th 07/08: 18th 06/07: 20th We've just enjoyed our best season at the level since 2000. Maybe that was a one-off, an anomaly? We'll find out, in time. Not mid-September.
I didn't go yesterday, but having seen the highlights, I don't think Schopp can be blamed for any of those misses.
Just watched it on ifollow. I didn't think we were particularly tippy tappy at the back, were pretty solid in defence and midfield and I liked the look of Gomes though I'm not sure he suits a two man central pairing. We looked pretty decent until the final third at which point we look toothless. We desperately miss Morris and AN Other up top with Woodrow. The season depends on whether we can find some effectiveness up front.
And Helik has yet to score this season. Last season he bursts the net with that first half header and we go in 1-0 up and everyone thinks differently. Just isn't quite clicking but we're not a million miles away at all.
