Polish surname and went on to play for Southampton.. ...any ideas ? Lad is sure it wasn't outalskowski (spelling )
Only player that springs to mind from the mid 70s going to Southampton is Central Defender Mick Pickering
think maybe you got the wrong club, nothing shows up re ex tarn/saints players that era Białkowski in 2009 mick pickeringski was quite a polished center half though
Just had an extensive look in my big book of BFC & I can't see any player that went to Southampton, only Pickering as mentioned by Tarntyke.
This was why it came up...mate was a local league referee in the mid 70s...was in charge of a Hood Green game...tackle went in and he was going to book him....player said his name and my mate looked at him....put his book away and said "Don't do it again"
I'm sure they're thinking of Otulakowski but have just got confused. He went to west ham before going to Southend not Southampton. I think that's where the confusion has come from.
Same here ......mate is mid 70s and was a local area ref at the time...just a funny story he told and tried to fill in the blanks
Worked with a few Polish lads at Sammy Foxes, most lived in the Hood Green / Thurgoland area, I think there had been some kind of camp in that area were they were billeted. One of them lived at Hood green, called him Rutkowski, had a lad that would have been playing at that time and was a bit of a hot head. Lay a pound to a penny it'll have been him.
