I have heard it's a free upgrade as long as you are on the latest version of Windows 10, is this correct ?
I'm quite happy with windows 7. But then again I was quite happy with RSX-11M+ with 0.5mb of memory and 1024mb hard disk.....
When I was at Jaguar some people were still using XP when Windows 8 was launched. Just about managed to replace XP with Win 7 by the time 10 appeared. I don't know how they get away with dropping support for an OS when there are still millions using it.
I doubt I will - Microsoft don't seem to have released a compatibility checker yet. I don't think any of my machines, although fairly new, have the right hardware.
I think so. Come 5th October you'll have loads of pop ups begging you to download it anyway ........... or you'll suddenly find your computer running really sluggishly, and then you discover its downloading and installing and taking years in the process.
I'm already on it on my work laptop, myself and fellow techs are testing it out as we've signed up for the insider program to get early releases, I'm on Windows 11 version 21H2 and so far it's leaps and bounds better than Windows 10!
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/get-windows-11 Install the pc health check, it's the hardware that needs to be compatible.
I've seen servers running Windows NT4 SP5! and mission-critical systems running on MS-DOS before, so nothing would surprise me...
Bugger. Warnings for TPM2 and Secure Boot, but a big fat no on Unsupported Processor. Served me well has this 2015 Stinkpad, so I'll run W10 for a bit longer before taking a punt on a new lappy.
