report just in on BBC website that he has died aged 83. A great player and star of Englands world cup winning team of 1966. R.I.P. Roger and many thanks for the memories. A sad day.
I remember Roger playing against Barnsley at Oakwell for Bolton during our relegation season of 1971/72. R.I.P. Roger.
I played for Mitchell's and Darfield under 13s as a lad, Our manager, Ernie Simpson ( I think), took us to a floodlit game at Hillsborough on 6 November 1965. The visitors were Liverpool, The score was 2 -0 to Liverpool. Hunt scored one of the goals (Thompson got the other) but I also remember the Owls fans calling him a name that rhymed with Hunt. My memory is not that brilliant, I had a good idea of the score but I did check the facts. Interestingly for such a massive club less than 24,000 attended this midweek game.
