We might just avoid it but we will need another Derby or Reading. Last night's effort was genuinely relegation material. It's that stark.
I don't think relegation is anything like a certainty as long as we act now and find a manager who can make the best use of the players he has available and motivate them.
Teams that can't defend and can't score goals get relegated. Simple as that. Get rid before it's too late.
I'd say that we already look like a League One side, but that would be an insult to League One. Individually, some of our players are Championship standard, they proved that last season. But collectively we're a shambles at the moment.
The best performance of a high press I saw last season was Preston vs Blackburn. Which damaged Blackburn so much they went hoofball against us the next game. Went sour there for him in the end but I’d see if Alex Neil wanted it.
All that was proved last season, standard wise, was we were good at hoof ball, not football. And our young players were way more comfy playing in empty stadiums.
I think there was a bit more to it than "hoof ball". Collins was excellent as sweeper keeper. Mads, Helik and Sibbick/Sollbauer were rock solid. Styles and Brittain looked like world beaters at times. Palmer and Kane were showing promise. The forward line looked dangerous no matter which 3 started or came off the bench. We didn't just survive, we almost took the next step up. Nearly all the names mentioned above were on their way to becoming real assets. Now it feels like they're going backwards, both in terms of ability and value.
