Remind me why he's no longer at Preston?

To be fair, same reason that Cooper was no longer at Swansea and Ismael was no longer at LASK. Every coach gets the sack at some point, he’d just run his course at Preston, not helped with the amount of players running out of contract and leaving.

I'd genuinely forgotten why he'd left. Not sure I can see him coming to Barnsley.

Fair enough, sorry I misinterpreted. Pretty sure he was sacked anyway, might’ve been phrased as the old

He seems a dreary Paul Hart type to me. Very dour.

I would like our next head coach to be British based.

    A singularly dreadful footballer.

At least it would mean he has no 'legend status' to destroy as a manager, though.

So he has a declining Win Percentage, which is not a positive.

Based on last night and blackpool he could possibly be in with a shout to get in our midfield

I think the reasons for those three leaving their jobs couldn't be any different. Cooper knew what was on the horizon and chose to leave, Alex Neill was sacked for being near the relegation zone, and Val was deemed really unlucky to find himself sacked with all the Coronavirus points deductions and everything. I think the owner also said he wasn't really sacking Val per say (he totally was) and more taking the opportunity on his replacement who had just become available.

Coaches get sacked for different reasons, but it doesn’t mean they’re a bad coach, just that their time has run it’s course. Maybe Neil’s biggest error was not seeing what was on the horizon and leaving at the start of the season. Because they were about to lose a fair few players.

But, as I’ve said on another thread, the single most impressive performance, playing a high press that I saw last season (apart from us) was his Preston team beating Blackburn. Admittedly, I don’t know if that was the norm or an exception during his time there, but if it was closer to the norm, he’s worth consideration if Schopp does go.

These types of thread are really pointless. Who'd heard of any of our last five permanent head coaches before we appointed them? Similarly with the transfer windows. People say "would we take a punt on xxx....?" Yet the players brought in are either from Europe and unknown to us, or totally left of field. It's not a profitable exercise to second-guess how our player or coach recruitment system works.
