Retiring from the commentary box, Nooooooo! What a bloke, most amazing voice and so knowledgeable. There was nothing more relaxing than listening to Gower and Holding together. Together they made batting collapses less stressful.
He will be missed. Probably doesn't want to hang around since Sky have got rid of most of his knowledgeable colleagues.
That’s a real shame. Loved listening to him both for the way he spoke and the knowledge he had. Up there with John Arlott and Ritchie Benaud for me
Sad news. Mikey has made the odd cameo appearance on Sky Sports Racing lately (racing is his second great love). Let's hope we see more of him on there.
That's such a shame. A true great of the game. And also great commentator who always told it like it was, but showed dignity, grace... with a little bit of menace. Who knew his ability and style with the ball would transcend so easily to his ability and style with the mic. Some of his more recent pieces to camera about black lives matter have been moving and emotional and he is going to be a huge miss. Legend.
I think the global success of 20 over cricket has left him with a sour taste. He has always been rigidly against that format but, as a true gentleman, he has only occasionally aired his views. A truly great player and commentator !
Loved listening to him, he was so articulate about cricket and more recently about the race issues. Also has my favourite ever nickname for a sportsman - "Whispering Death". Describes his fast bowling action nicely.
Yes I heard him on Desert Island Discs. I was about to catch up on Sound of the 70s when I heard Mikey was on. Very interesting listening. One of the few left with any knowledge in the commentary box. I only hope Bumble keeps going for a bit longer.
He's hit the nail on the head again. England should have gone. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/58805312
Easy to say when you don't have to do it yourself. New Zealand had already cancelled, there must have been some preyy big scare on
