BMBC and Cryne aren't going to put any money into it, Conway in his last interview said they can't buy it due to the issues so l think it's going two ways, we move into a new stadium or they'll put the club up for sale.
Great opportunity to provide a standing area (even if only temporary). Knock the old stand down. The concrete terracing that the lower seats are on was renewed when the seats went in so they’d probably only need crash barriers or whatever it they use in modern stadiums. Put a new roof over which would be considerably lower than the current one. Couple of refreshment bars and toilet blocks ( covered)Jobs a good ‘un
Probably time to stop calling them new... given they are approaching 4 years of ownership in December.
The point that I think is more than relevant (sorry if already mentioned in the longest thread since Tommy Tyke got done) ...... is if their are 'wrangles' over ground upkeep costs etc and the ground ownership issue which will no doubt drag on indefinitely, the who will step up with the demolition costs? Theres one thing wanting to spend money to upgrade an asset but not to devalue it. I know (by choice or by order) in the long run it would happen anyway. It's like a soap opera at the moment.
He's probably at work doing his job, it's a stupid position to expect a employee of the club to be held accountable for actions of the club.
My Dad sat in the WSU, he said if ur ever closed he'd stop going. Won't sit behind nets and wouldn't fact the hike and climb of the ES.
Stupid position? Held accountable? No problem here with this YT bloke pal, (his politics are reyt up my street). At a guess he's probably as pissed off as most of us with what's transpired so far this season!
Moving to an out of town site WILL drive down attendances. As others have said, being able to walk down to the ground for many is a benefit. The current owners nave never promised to splash the cash and it's fairly pointless to expect they're going to start on this where there's no extra revenue of any significance. The whole thing looks like a s**t show and makes us look a bit tin pot. That's my three loosely related takes on all this. Some owners willing to put some funds in would be nice but they've never proved to be in evidence before so don't hold your breath.
Why does Andy always get sounded out whenever there’s a club announcement people don’t like? What do people expect him to say or do? It’s bloody stupid.
Didn't a wise(??) oracle on here once upon a time predict we should build a new ground off the M1 near Woolley and rebrand as the YORKSHIRE TYKES?
Makes no sense whatsoever. So they make a hash of this season, which might lower the value of the club by 10%, but next seasons loss would exceed that, and then they’d have to invest to increase the value, the numbers just don’t add up, and getting relegated is a huge gamble. League 1 already contains a fair number of ‘bigger’ clubs than Barnsley, and next season you can add at least one more to that list. Just cos we bounced straight back last time doesn’t mean we would do so again.
If Doncaster and Rotherham can build new stadiums and we can't then its time to shut up shop and get gone.
I don't think they want to make a hash of the season... I do believe they want to get as much as they can without paying for it, and/or, reducing costs that they've already agreed and signed up to. Given the dispute, I see no reason unless contractually obliged, for the Crynes to invest in Oakwell given they are unlikely to generate additional rent from a party that they may not trust. I see no reason for the council to pay for Oakwell to be developed, given the backdrop of cuts and pressure on services. I don't see ConLee paying any money out for anything, even if asset based, give their 4 years of occupancy to date. Given the fallout from brexit, I don't think the business model they inherited can work now. But they'll think last season is repeatable. Frankly it's impossible to know what they are trying to do. But it's an absolute shambles, whether by design or simply through events panning out this way.
Andy? Please explain why you are so offended along with on I expect him to single handedly demolish and rebuild the West Stand in its original state before the next home game cos in my eyes its a thing of beauty! Is that oreyt?
