Does any one know why the West Stand 'failed' to get a H & S Certificate? Only a couple? of years go weren't new side panels installed. If someone applies for and gets English Heritage 'Protected Building' status on the Stand then the Stand is there in perpetuity, (Mr C you'll know about this than me !)
Surely if we want to maximise potential there is a massive stadium underutilised by a League 1 side we could borrow ( and that would get me asking for a refund)
Sainsbury's. Same as every decent-sized piece of land that has come up for sale in the last 30+ years...
I'd be hibernating until we left that deedar shïthole. My support is not tied to Oakwell, but I'd not ever watch us play home matches in Sheffield.
I do wish we would all accept the simple fact that football teams can’t just relocate permanently to another town. It’s worse than tedious to have to keep having the same discussion every other month. It happened at Wimbledon, cos the FA never considered the possibility so hadn’t legislated against it. But they since ensured it can’t happen again. We can have 2 years as a guest somewhere else, but then we have to return to Barnsley.
Far be it to praise the Blunts but something like that would be perfect for our new west stand. One simple tier stand, corporate boxes with balconies, corners filled in and a score board that's fit for purpose. It could be built in a way that it would be simple enough if we ever needed another tier put on.
I I would have thought Doncaster or Huddersfield were the more likely future landlords, an outside bet would be Dewsbury Rugby league ground. Small, some parking and 2 miles from Junction 40.
be interesting the EFL trying to win an argument with very rich people. They don’t have a great track record.
Sainsbury's got the B&Q on Stairfoot Roundabout shut saying they were going to put a supermarket there then said sorry we aren't now meaning I now have to trail to bloody Cottonwood when I want DIY stuff instead of just nipping round the corner so they can **** right off
Do you think that if a rich person could have bought Bury’s place in the league and moved it to somewhere else it wouldn’t have happened? If it was easy for someone to buy a ‘franchise’ as a starting point in the league and then move it to a more populous area it would have been done often.
Thats what our Amwrican owners fail to understand. They're having a right rant in Scotland because SFA rules don't allow them to purchase a club there.
You know... that pretty much sums up these owners for me. The club in their portfolio which could have the biggest reach in terms of audiences and revenues if it gained one single promotion finished 5th last season. In just 3 (ish) months. We've lost our head coach, first team coach, performance analyst, sports scientist, head physio, goalkeeping coach, chief executive (who walked out with zero notice) and club secretary. Our captain, a loan signing that we were told didn't have many obstacles to completing it permanently and our most experienced player left. We started the season with ticketing problems at turnstiles, a ground that had hardly been touched in 18 months, closures of key routes to the ground, closure of the fanzone, a butchering of capacity with a maximum of 2,000 away fans in a 6k(ish) capacity stand because of a lack of stewards. Our fairly new, but completely inadequate scoreboard has packed in. And the Barnsley bench have now resorted to using an oversized alarm clock to try and work out how long is left in a game. Our players came back unfit. Our overseas signings were delayed from being with us officially because of some visa issues, which has yet to be fully explained. Our new head coach doesn't have a full coaching compliment and we've had a dreadful start being the joint lowest scorers in the division and currently sitting in 22nd on goal difference. Our owners are suing each other. There are disputes over the ground. The majority owners have stated they won't be acquiring the ground and have explored ground sharing in the past, and haven't currently ruled it out again. And the latest shambles is a stand that could have been inspected and worked on in 18 months of fans not being there has now been closed 6 games into the season meaning fans who've sat there for potentially decades have to move at very short notice, or take the decision to not return and get a refund. Despite all of this, our majority owners are happier talking about the other leagues in mainstream press in order to try and spend nominal amounts (in the scheme of things) of someones money (impossible to know where its coming from) to buy a moderate sized unfashionable club in a minor league. If you don't think that is thoroughly ****ed up, then I'm not sure what has to happen for it to be the case.
