Real interesting stuff if you're a Fury fan, even this it is Gary Neville interviewing, that maybe his niche.

Agreed, so could go either way if AJ loses the rematch I'd like to see him fight Wilder.

I’d like Wilder to just vanish to be honest.

Fury won 95% of three fights. Yes Wilder put up an amazingly gutsy performance last night, but that doesn’t make it a good one. Some seriously respectable pundits are trying to say Wilder is a great in defeat - he got destroyed outside of some shots of his own.

I’m a big believer that styles make fights. Usyk is a nightmare for anyone. AJ crushes Wilder if he finds himself in a similar situation to what he was against Fury. Wilder crushes AJ if he finds himself in a situation like he got in to against Fury.

That’s why heavyweight boxing has always been the best. It’s far less predictable. Any of the top fighters could beat each other in my opinion.

Isn't that a contradiction or am I missing the point?

Agree with the overall points you were making but a bit confused by this part? Did you mean Usyk/Ruiz for the AJ comparison part?

If Wilder wants go disappear then fair enough he's 35 I think? And has made enough money I'm sure. If he wants to carry on I'd like it to be against another of the top guys. He's had 3 fights with Fury and as you say its hard to say where any of the top guys stand until they start fighting each other.

What I was getting at is that Fury doesn’t have the punch power of AJ. If AJ was to catch Wilder early and have him in trouble like he was in the third round, then he doesn’t make it out of the round in my opinion. He definitely wouldn’t have been able to stagger around for five rounds like he did.

Likewise, AJ doesn’t have the durability of Tyson so doesn’t get up from the two knockdowns in round four, or if he does he doesn’t have his head clear as soon as round five. He’s far more fragile.

Similar, Fury got caught on the inside by Wilder. Wilder is known as being terrible at fighting at close distance yet managed to clip him a few times. AJ is a far better boxer on the inside with better shot selection and accuracy, so storming in like that would be risky and could backfire. Especially that uppercut that regularly lands.

That’s what I meant by styles make fights. Usyk causes all of them problems, but Fury likely handles him better due to his boxing ability, height, weight and staying at range with managing the distance.

I understand that styles make fights and agree with your points above, I was just confused on the 'AJ crushes Wilder if he finds himself in a similar situation to what he was against Fury. Wilder crushes AJ if he finds himself in a situation like he got in to against Fury'

Sorry mate, I'm not getting it. Obviously only Wilder has fought Fury (not AJ). So I'm reading it as 'both AJ crushes Wilder and Wilder crushes AJ if Wilder find himself in a situation he got into against Fury', which doesn't make sense. Maybe it's just me lol, think I've read it wrong as I know you know what you're talking about..

Are you saying it could go either way depending on different events that occurred in the Fury/Wilder fight (if they were to reoccur)?

If an AJ vs. Wilder fight played out like the Fury fight did on Saturday, I don't think Wilder would get out of the third round against AJ because he's got more one punch, concussive power than Fury. Likewise, if AJ was hurt in the way way Fury was I don't think AJ gets out of that round against Wilder because he's not as durable as Fury.

I'm basically saying that their strengths and weaknesses are all so different that it isn't as easy or conclusive as saying 'x beats y because x beat z'. In the heavyweight division more than any other power and the ability to take a punch is such an equaliser and gives different results.

To those with more boxing knowledge than I:
Since the fight I keep reading 3 things from press repeatedly(not seen fight yet):

    1) Fury is as good as anyone ever
    2) Arguably the greatest fight ever
    3) Wilder the most explosive/hardest hitting ever

    Thoughts please?

    1) Not true - yet
    2) Arguably one of the greatest heavyweight fights of all time but would struggle to make the top ten of any weight division. As with a lot of things though, the most recent usually gets the plaudits as it's so fresh in the mind. The fight had the most drama of any heavyweight fight I can remember but that doesn't make it the best. Bowe vs. Holyfield was brilliant as was Ali vs. Foreman and even AJ vs. Klitschko.
    3) Comfortably top five of all time at heavyweight and probably top two. The other Tyson might have something to say on this one mind.

Im a casual fan and its that kind of fight I am interested in probably more so than the heavyweight div. I think there have been some great Smith Bros, Eggerton, Yarde fights and hope that the new Sky promotion team get some upcoming talent on show. Im not prepared to pay for every sub.

You're a bit more than a casual fan though if you're prepared to sit and watch a card that is headlined by Callum Johnson. A casual fan is someone who only ever watched Eubank, Benn, Tyson, Lewis, Bruno, Naz, etc. or AJ and Hatton in recent times. Basically the big cards with the most popular fighters.

If it's any consolation, I understood it first time. Swap Joshua for Fury in those two situations and the outcome is different.
