How much will it cost in season ticket refunds? What will be the ongoing cost of those lost seats, both this season and in future loss of sales to the disenfranchised? How much will it cost in lost ticket sales to home fans? I’d guess that whatever important facts come out, it’s highly unlikely the club will be quids in from having to shut the west stand. Even if you ignore the long term harm
I think short term not a lot as if they can sell an extra 2500 away tickets at an average of £30 each that may well cover the refunds if its only a couple of hundred West standers throw in the towel. Even if half of us did 2 or 3 more full away stands will cover that. Longer term though its a different matter - many of the West Standers that have gone are now gone for good - at least under the current owners many more will review their position at the end of the season - added to the fact that now the remaining seats in the 2 home stands are by definiton now quite poor ones a lot of individual match by match purchasers will stop coming also if we did find some form 12000 home fans is not a lot. A cup run or surge up the table (haha) would cause a many part timers who would normally come to miss it Im not sure this makes sense even purely financially but now the board has destroyed trust and alienated a large number of supporters who up to now had been prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt. They will never recover that
Thats a stunning piece of information , given the thousands of plastic seats in the ground are you suggesting they should all be changed to wood ? Incidentally I am no scientist but I would have thought that wood would burn whilst plastic would melt in a fire situation , God forbid that never happens again
The timing seems really bad. Whatever the reasons, this decision should have been taken in the summer.
If it had to be taken it should have been done before Season Tickets went on general sale so that those who had renewed in the West Stand could move to the other stands and take over from any who didnt renew for any reason. I still am far from convinced it is a decision that should have been taken anyway - only good reasons from my viewpoint are to either rebuild it, or if its unsafe - clearly its not being rebuilt anytime soon and its safe so no reason at all to do it
I’m currently chained to the upper west stand. I’m cold, hungry & my phone is running out of battery. & it looks like everyone has gone home. So much for direct action..
I am sure you are right , some plastics when heated give off toxic fumes, not good for the old lungs , nearly as bad as 20 Woodbines !!!
Stringent criteria for getting a Fire Safety Certificate - 'escape-routes' have to be identified - accessibility for emergency vehicles assessed - assembly point(s) identified - emergency 'phones/ in place - stewards briefed on their responsibilities in emergency etc. re East Upper - not sure how someone in a wheelchair gets out in an emergency as the service lift would be closed down down if there was a fire.
Usually they have dedicated refuge areas and a response plan that directs firefighters to that area first.
