I am getting old because I always thought winning games increased value of players and not the style played. Maybe nobody came in for our players in the summer because covid times mean clubs cannot afford what even us would accept as enough.
Ahh okay, I must be thinking of another period of time when they were bragging about rejecting bids. Regarding your second point, I don’t really agree. Sure, it looks nicer than hacking the ball away but last season our defenders all looked solid and dependable. This season, not at all. Even Michal doesn’t look the same player to me. And if I was a team looking for a quality defender in January, I wouldn’t be focusing on their passing accuracy percentage.
Well that's it. What's the point in supporting us? We might as well merge with Man City and act as their development squad. They get the next Stones for free and in return fund us as a going concern. We're literally a youth team but not even bringing players on to benefit our own team.
That's why I said 'at the start' before we lost five on the spin. There were a couple of games early doors where he was every bit the defender of last season, but was showing he's far more than just a battering ram centre half and could play football. That makes his value far higher. It's a really, really silly thing for a CEO to say when we're only off the bottom of the league because WRDCFC have had a points deduction. If we were doing ok, or even lower mid table, you might get some understanding. But right now when we're a million miles away from looking like a team capable of staying up, why would you even discuss this in the press?
I have serious doubts about this statement and it's relationship with reality. They had the chance to sell Mowatt last summer and in January but didn't. It was known in the Polish community that Mischa expected to be sold in the transfer window but somehow wasn't. Mads was expected to leave but got injured, so scuppered that. The performance of Callum Styles meant he was a desirable target. Never in my life have I heard such nonsense from a professional sports organisation. The club under the current ownership is becoming more and more removed from reality. They are unpopular with other clubs and the EFL because of their legal threats and perceived whingeing. As a town, community and support, we are daily assailed and insulted by this ownership group. The club's demise over the next few years seems inevitable, sadly.
Today Barnsley FC the sporting entity died and was replaced by a retail establishment. The idea of a sporting club is to achieve success on the field when that ceases to be its main reason for being it's no longer a sporting club. The comments by the CEO today that the success on the field we all enjoyed so much last season was in fact deemed by our owners to be a failure because it didn't lead to a massive profit in player sales for them this summer despite the fact they actually got £2 million for the head coach shows the club is not even pretending to be anything other than a cash cow for its owners and I include Cryne junior in that. RIP Barnsley Football Club
We need to get on board with a world driven by data and greed. What about a new ‘Moneyball Board’ at Oakwell that displays every player and their value in real time? Every completed pass, header or shot increases value, every mis-placed pass or foul etc decreases it. Then at the end of every game, bids come in from other clubs and every fan vote as to who should be cashed in. Players that consistently fail can be given the Squid Game treatment and executed on the pitch. I bet this would be given serious consideration by our owners....
Even before the run of defeats, I didn’t think he looked as comfortable as last season. There were mistakes creeping in and not just ones from trying to pass it around. But yeah I agree on the timing of it. Makes no sense.
We're being treated like a franchise, just ask the people of Cleveland, San Diego, St Louis, Oakland and Los Angeles how they felt when their teams got moved. Basically the local authorities wouldn't build a new stadium so the NFL moved them. The owners only profit from ownership and if they win the championship great. Even if they finish last they make a killing. These owners don't understand our league system. Conway is right about the financial situation in the game, but those who've broken the rules have overspent. Our owners only appear to want to make profit and put nothing in, like the NFL owners. Let's theoretically say we get x millions from sales, how much do you think will be reinvested on the pitch? I'm guessing not much, let's not forget they've took money out already. Writing is on the wall
That's why the scoreboards playing up the board are changing its function from showing the score to showing live in game player values so they can keep track and order the coach to make changes to try and increase player value.
I don't recall any mistakes from passing it around, for Helik or the team. I thought he looked extremely competent. I remember saying we need to throw a £500k pay rise at him just for an extra 12 months so we get the full £10 million fee in the Summer. Our defensive mistakes have come from terrible marking, getting caught out behind down the channels, and just generally being poor.
So what is the foooooooooking point in supporting this football club anymore with these set of toss pots in charge!!? I want us to compete at the highest level using any means possible, I couldn’t care less how much attention a player attracts from other clubs, success on the field & attention to the players go hand in hand ffs. Nobody’s gonna be interested in these players at the minute because we are the worst team in the league ffs! It’s time to get some protests going, because these absolute nob heads are systematically ruining our club! They are ripping the identity out of us and laughing whilst they’re doing it!
So... When Robert Goulet says Schopp is basically telling the players to go out and play how they want... That's cos BFC matches are a shop window for 11 footballers to show their value, not for a team to play together to win matches?! Maximising potential from individuals is Schopps remit??
Golden days before they end Whisper secrets to the wind Your baby won't be near you any more Tender nights before they fly Send falling stars that seem to cry Your baby doesn't want you any more, it's over It breaks your heart in two, to know she's been untrue But, oh, what will you do when she says to you "There's someone new, we're through, we're through " It's over, it's over, it's over All the rainbows in the sky Start to weep then say goodbye You won’t be seeing rainbows anymore Setting suns before they fall Echo to you that’s all, that’s all But you’ll see lonely sunsets after all It's over, it's over It's over, it's over
