Such a lack of passion both from players and crowd. Marginal improvement at 3-0 down but that seemed to be from United knowing the game was over and getting complacent
We were poor....again. As has been quoted i just hope those 2 goals and oooh we have Anderson and Benson (probably in 2 weeks!) coming back we will be alrght its all coming together. News flash....its not ....we are really really poor.
All down to Sheffield United taking their best player off and sitting back. They gave up and then we started to play. Thought today’s performances from Brittain, Styles, Woodrow, and even Helik, were just an embarrassment. We played like we were too good to track back. We rushed in to tackles we were never going to win without a care in the world, like we didn’t care we’d not win it and be miles out of position. We anticipated nothing and just didn’t appear to have any desire or hunger. We competed first half but even then Sheffield United were absolutely awful. How many times did they put it out for a throw for no reason? The whole game from our side was passive dialled up to 100.
can’t disagree with much of that. Though I did think Styles played ok first half and showed some determination and passion.
He showed glimpses. But also glimpses of the opposite. He was jogging back first half, about five yards behind the free man at the back post, just asking for the ball to be floated across for a tap in. Not once did he accelerate to get goal side. Too many players just play with zero urgency, not just on the ball or flying in to tackles, but having any awareness of what’s going on around them.
As a person, I felt sorry for him tbf. Football aside, he’s a bloke who’s come over on his own, no family, and tried his best with none of his own coaching staff. Can’t be nice to be boo’d. Yes he should go, but I can’t help think the new back room staff and players themselves are just as much to blame too.
38 minutes saw the first shot on goal today by United, shortly followed by one from us. 3 pieces of calamitous and diabolical defending in the second half did for us. Woodwork, a good penalty shout and 2 goals (from open play)from us gave us hope, but the poor defending for their goals was sickening.
I’m annoyed with everyone right now. I’m annoyed with Paul Conway as acting CEO for overseeing a disastrous Summer in charge of the football club. I’m annoyed with Dane Murphy for not appearing on the face of it to have had a better contingency plan. In most other industries handing over a mess like this would be seen as negligence. I’m annoyed at Val for inheriting a stable, successful and experienced coaching team, and then taking them with him when he left. Schopp for overseeing some of the strangest team selections I’ve ever seen in the last three weeks. For not having a clear plan. For appearing to not have the bottle to play HIS way and HIS style. For essentially giving up. The players for their part in this. Not everything we’re witnessing right now is down to Schopp. They have to shoulder some of the responsibility, even if it is weighted towards the Head Coach. The new CEO for the ridiculous situation with the West Stand and the needless comments to the media around recruitment. Almost every manager in the Premier League for giving me one of the worst weeks in Fantasy Football I’ve ever had.
Glad I stayed until full time. It's easier as a supporter to support the lads when they are doing well. It's now that they need us behind them more. You wouldn't know we lost by the big hand the team got. The players looked to appreciate it applauding back properly not half arsed. We showed a lot of fight in the last twenty helped by subs. Schopp needs to go still. Cannot forgive him shunning the fans. Deserved every loud boo and F off he got walking off alone.
Tbh, he may as well gone straight up the tunnel, don't see the point of him coming over as he never has before.
the lack of organisation between styles and kitching in the 1st half was shocking - neither knew what to do, or what the other was doing , this combined with a complete lack of styles tracking back and neither of them going with their man was unforgivable. Utd were just passing around them at will in that bottom left hand corner.
That ref has given 45 yellow cards this season, what a bunch of light weights. Just goes to show how meekly we capitulated.
Kitching reminded me of Jenny Agutter in Walkabout - miles away from where they ought to have been. Lost. Not that Styles covered for him - there was just a great big area of green where your left sided "defender" should have been.
I think the fact Dane and Taymour never received acknowledgement from ourselves when they left, says all it needs to about what the club think of them…… It also shows how important Murray was in keeping continuity and knowing the players.
