I did actually ask him as we shook hands after the show. 'You don't fancy coming to Oakwell, do you?' Read into it what you will, but he genuinely laughed at me...

I think he will be. Devaney was offered the role as caretaker when Val left but Schopp arrived quicker than expected. Devaney will get Derby and Hull games.

stendal until dec 31st to get them fit and playing decent football and getting the new managers aims across, then hannes wolfe. in the mean time he can work with the squad via ds/skype, wolfes paperwork can be sorted and he can discuss comings and goings in the january window. . . . just a pipe dream but you never know

A no regarding Stendel for me. Was out of his depth last time round. Need a better version now, just like Struber was.

Do well run clubs lose £3-4m operationally placing huge reliance on asset sales every single year?

We may not be a complete basket case club placing a massive gamble on short term success, but we're not awash with cash from a hugely successful buy and sell strategy. In 4 years our cash reserves are pretty much depleted, we're only solvent because of the Crynes write off of debt.

If we get relegated this year, we have big big problems.

I've a feeling it will be a PR appointment like Wilson in 2013. I've a gut feeling it will be someone to galvanise the team and fans until the end of the season until they appoint another Continental Head Coach.

My shout would be Redfearn because in this situation fist pumping and high fives might be the order of the day. A bit like Flitcroft and the great escape.

I'll take any manager who specialises in tactics that level the playing field against the overpowered rich sides you face in this division. That was what made Val so good (and also why he isn't doing any better with a much stronger WBA squad). I don't care where they're from or what they've done before.. it's having appropriate tactics and coaching for our situation that matters. Especially now we're in a relegation scrap.

I don't think Devaney will get near the First Team until he's a genuine contender for the job. Overlooked here and hardly surprising when it's just a two week appointment - even though I'd have liked him to have stepped up.

I highly doubt that. An appalling precedent to set the players if you are wanting them to earn you money from sales.

And has played them in his U23s so knows something about what makes them tick.

Poor to lose so many key staff at once though in the summer.
