My only guess for the delay in the official announcement was to confirm who was taking temporary charge. As for the caretaker coach being one of the existing coaching staff, isn't that always the case? On Schopp. He was a poor appointment. It wasn't the time to be trying to completely change the way we play, so it was never going to work out, particularly when you consider the wasted pre-season, player losses / injuries, fact he can't bring his own staff over with him. Unfortunately, these factors started to wither as excuses as our results continued to get worse as the season went on, more players became available, and the quality of opposition was also dropping. He really should've gone after the Millwall game. Whoever they bring in to replace him, I only hope it's fairly quick and they can bring one or two of their own staff in with them.
So we don't know if he's sacked or walked. They are last to share us the news and have the cheek to put out minimum details.
I actually think they've just tried to be respectful and left it open like a lot of clubs do these days. Maybe turning a new leaf? Spurs went with 'relieved of duties' for Nuno, but Cardiff went 'mutual consent' on Mick, and everyone knows he was sacked (or at least that's what the media portrayed it as). I personally wouldn't read much in to it other than standard football talk like 'undisclosed' for transfer fees.
Unfortunately this decision though welcome is 1 of many issues which still need resolving at the club. The CEO better give us proper answers about the ground and the missing money. Schopp's gone, guns are now being traced rightly on a new target.
That statement from Marcus is so dignified that it reinforces my feeling that quitting the role was also his favoured option. When he spoke of a "process" the other week, it was the time and method of his departure that he was speaking about.
It would certainly be turning over a new leaf. Given the club's history of comms on outgoing staff I'd definitely expect it to be at least implied if we had sacked him. Ah well, I guess it can be another question for the CEO to avoid answering.
Sure it will be one of the first asked, or the first addressed, anyway. Usually a handful of questions are answered in the opening gambit but it's never been a 'sell out' before. Parted ways, parted company, etc. is pretty standard for official club statements. The media then run it how they see it.......
I feel for the bloke. No doubt there’ll be some on here who will be making out he’s dropped on due to some compensation but I imagine he came over to what he expected to be a well run club & instead found a shambles of a club. Assistant, stats guy, fitness coach, physio, chief exec all gone. The players don’t look fit. New signings coming in last minute like Oulare & Vita who even now in late October aren’t ready. Iseka & Gomes can’t do 90 minutes. I’m not saying he’s done a good job but I believe we’d be in the bottom third of the table under any manager up to now. Yes we might have a picked a few more points up but anybody who thinks we should be mid table or higher is deluding themselves in my eyes. Saturday was the first time this season I’ve looked at a team sheet & thought that it looked a bit like a championship side. Before then it’s been really weak for this level & we’re desperate for some strength up top through Morris & Oulare. Results should start to pick up now we’ve got better players back whether it’s Laumann, a new guy or if Schopp was still here but I just really hope this is the end of the chaos every time we have a good season. It’s demoralising losing key players & staff every time we do well. I get that we have to sell to buy but surely we shouldn’t be losing the amount of players / staff in one window that we seem to do every couple of years.
whole host of reasons I guess. has it cost us any money? if he walked, why? is it purely results or are there other factors that are gonna also impact the next manager? general curiosity
I'll third it, he gave it a go and it just didn't work out. Wish the decision had been made before Sheff Utd match though .
Contractually and under the DPA, the club can’t just reveal everything. Other parties do leak things though, hence why news broke last night. It happens at all clubs, not just ours. Fair play to the board though - they’ve been seen to give him ample time, and then axed when required. Can’t get all the managers right. Just ask Levy at Spurs……
