We need to produce mid-table form for the remaining 31 games, if we are to stay up. The situation is almost identical to that when Struber took over. We had 9 points from 16 games then, and took another 40 from the last 30 games. That was enough to stay up, as we all know, only by the skin of our teeth and thanks to Wigan's points deduction. We now have 8 points from 15 games. 42 points from the remaining 31 games would give us a total of 50 points, which usually (though not always) is sufficient to stay up, That equates to e.g. 11 wins, 9 draws, 11 defeats. I think the players are good enough to manage this, but it won't be easy. This is the mess we have been left with, owing to the delay in dispensing with a head coach, who, whatever his personal qualities may be, and whatever handicaps he was faced with, was, some while ago, in most supporters' eyes, clearly not up to the job.
Four points from these next two matches, would not 'urt. It would make everything look far more achievable.
We have a much stronger squad now than when Struber came in. The vital thing is to hang on to it and possibly strengthen in January
I'd prefer 6 points. I firmly believe that's achievable if the formation and selections are right. But not if we persist in playing out of form players, continue to leave defensive holes behind the wing backs, and don't pick our strongest eleven starters. Over to you, Mr Laumann...
A half decent coach should be able to keep us up with 30 games to play.. With a little help in the January window. Both ins and outs
Can anybody remember us being bottom of the league at Christmas and getting promoted in the same season?
A half decent manager can keep us up no problem. We have a decent mid table squad, plenty of time and the league is average
This is why it should have been done at the last international break, rather than waiting for 4 more defeats and having us cut miles adrift of even 18th place.
I mentioned similar stats on another thread, and not convinced we’ll be able to get to 50. And instead be relying on Derby being hit with a further deduction for ffp. On the positive side, we have Iseka and Cole who seem to be linking up well, and hopefully Cole will stop missing sitter. With Oulare and Morris still to come in. If the new coach can get us setup in a way that doesn’t mean we’re so vulnerable to the counter attack every time we have the ball we’ll give ourselves a chance. But it won’t be easy. This action really should’ve been taken during the last international break.
I hope you are right. I think the next two games are really vital. We need to win them both for 6 massive points and the huge confidence boost that would go with that.
As soon as Schopp left I completely re-evaluated the remaining games and I've now got us finishing on 62 points. I really am that confident.
