I miss the good old days when it was possible to make a killing on Predicting Barnsley Managers. I went on holiday with my Lee Johnson fund. It will clearly be no one on that list.
It will be interesting to see what direction they go this time. Brexit has hugely impacted the potential pool of coaches available as well as players. Given that Schopp wasn't allowed or able to bring any of his coaches with him, he was completely hamstrung from the start. We also don't know if the Crynes and ConLee are playing nicely and a data based approach for coaches is still viable. While I'm not expecting an old school dinosaur manager/coach, this is perhaps the first time that an english coach might be more attractive. I'd hope by now given the hugely varying styles and formations of every coach we've had that we might just appoint the best possible candidate thats available.
Hmm. I wouldn't be that optimistic. Val didn't take him to WBA and he was only a 3rd/4th tier assistant previously. Some of our fans seem to be keen on the strength of him showing some passion once and wanting to chin someone.
You'd hope that data will be used again, now that there's a CEO in post. But I think you're right, there's more chance of a currently British based coach coming in this time. Possibly from an u23s setup, like Critchley going from Liverpool to Blackpool
Whose going to sign baring in mind the CEO and Co-Chairman have stated the goal is to sell players? If I were a perspective Head Coach I'm looking at this thinking I get them firing and up the table and lose a couple of better players and I'm back to square one.
I don't think a coach will care a great deal. We tend to look to give people an opportunity. One, with the notion they are hungry, but, conveniently, they are also much cheaper at the outset. So the flipside, a coach wanting opportunity may get it at Barnsley at a higher level than where they thought they may otherwise get it. I suspect many coaches will back themselves to do well and won't fully appreciate the possible issues they are going to face behind the scenes.
What concerns me most is the CEO goes on record as saying results on the pitch don't matter and he isn't concerned about relegation as the club can operate the same in League 1. Then just over a week later sacks the Head Coach. As a perspective Head Coach I'm looking at that and thinking:
Nailed on to be am Estonian goat herder from their Sunday morning league or an Austrian who once played against Barcelona in a pre season friendly
