Wilder used to get bus to blades every day he worked there . So we’ve got him a bus pass and that’s swayed him to sign for us
never heard of him. just shows my lack of football knowledge. Thanks to Wikipedia I now know who he is and I doubt very much that we will see him at Oakwell in any capacity any time soon.
Like I said before, I don't see why folk think its a big stretch. The guy is local and at an age when he probably appreciates home and friends, he's available so no compo needed, I wouldn't be in the least surprised if we get him in.
Its not a big stretch for us fans...its the board you have to contend with on this one. We see the sense in it...he would definately galvanize the team, improve all the players (so they could be sold) and the team would massively improve. I just cannot see this lot agreeing to pay him what he wants. Great shame.
Seen where someone asked Alan Nixon an hour ago if there was anything in the Wilder to Barnsley rumour.. didn't say yes didn't say no just... He won't be cheap.
But if West Brom couldn't afford him, what makes you think we can? Whether it makes sense to the fans or not, if we can't pay what he'd want, how can we realistically bring him to the club? Its like saying we should bring Ethan Pinnock back, we'd love to, and it would make sense to the fans, but he's a premier League centre half who's probably on over £20k a week.
Our transfer policy really isn't much different to a lot of clubs these days. You're an outlier if your manager/head coach does have a direct say on recruitment, so if that's what they demand then they're fishing in a very small pond of potential jobs.
Probably because he turned down the West Brom job and regularly gets linked with bigger jobs than us. We're also notoriously tight on budget and he'll no doubt be demanding a fair salary for his abilities. It is a big stretch no matter what way you look at it. Doesn't mean it isn't completely out of the question though.
You take it how you want.. I'd hazard a guess, that talks are on going with one or two and until talks have turned into agreements, then all you will get is, possible, but don't know. One thing I'd say is the Wilder rumour has been out long enough to be rubbished by now. Sure someone like Giddings could have said it's ********. Not saying he's coming by a long chalk. But I'd would say there's something in it.
I would love it to be wilder even just untill end of season but can't see it happening. Didn't he turn down forest because he wanted full control of transfers.
Yea the key word i was quoting was "think"....i know we cant afford him. ....and i know our board wont stump up his wages. Id love to think we could go for him. Unfortunately we wont. So that was kinda my point.
Of course anyone can read into the tweets in a different way but I just think if he knew anything, he’d answer. That way he’d get the credibility first, which he seems to care about. And in relation to silencing rumours, I’m not sure the club would come out and deny every name. They’d be there a while! I’d imagine radio Sheffield will get their interviews today for the game tomorrow but whoever is doing the interview probably won’t make any comment on rumoured managers coming in.
But it's not that the board don't want to put out the money, it's the simple fact that the money isn't there for them to put out. Chris Wilder has (probably deliberately) priced himself out of being a championship football manager again. He's holding out for a Premier League job. You can't blame him to be fair.
