Where would Luis Boa Morte rank on the Unknown-o-meter if he was to be named our new manager? He's a well known name in English football, having played for Arsenal, West Ham, Fulham and of course, Chesterfield. He's not quite had the same club pedigree as another unknown, Valerien Ismael, albeit Boa Morte was on the books at Arsenal when they won the league. He also doesn't have the same international pedigree as Markus Schopp, making around 35 fewer international appearances. Coaching wise, he's on a similar footing to Jose Morais, often the bridesmade but only the bride to a third division Portuguese side. So where does he rank on a scale of David Hockaday to Sir Alex Ferguson?
Not sure about that, Flynn has more experience for being the head coach, rather than just an assistant.
Do we want a guy that's just resigned because he wasn't cutting it this season at Newport County though?
That's seriously not why he resigned. He took an unfancied team, got them playing decent/intense/pressure football, and made the Playoff Final. But you're saying someone who's never been the head coach outside of the 3rd Division in Portugal is a better prospect? Fine if you do, but lay the reasons out on the table as it's a bold claim based on the evidence.
I don't know the first thing about Flynn, or how Newport have played. But coaches leaving for whatever reason after 3-4 years isn't uncommon. Even Klopp and Guardiola had a poor (by their standards) season after 3 years of success. That's why I'd prefer Alex Neil, and am not concerned about the fact that he's been sacked by Preston. I'd lean towards someone with EFL head coach experience than an assistant coach, unless there's some ringing endorsements about him.
My comment earlier about Boa Morte being a bigger name was sarcasm based on the number of characters in his name. I never realised I'd have to explain that.
He almost left after their Playoff Final defeat. Cited needing a break, big rebuilding job, taken them as far as he could in four years, etc. Not only did he get them to the Playoff Final, but they had some great cup performances playing a really positive brand of football. Not saying he's my first choice, but I know two tenths of bugger all about Luis Boa Morte as a coach. I know a lot more about Michael Flynn and his regard in the game.
If we dropped to L1 I think Flynn would be the better bet... It not he's thirty games to cut his teeth on the champ
