Doesn’t matter that he’s been found guilty of ‘cash for access’ by the Parliamentary Commissioner as he was found to have repeatedly lobbied ministers and officials for two companies paying him more than £100,000 per year. They’re voting to change the disciplinary process for this. https://apple.news/AyOj1lvmxSq2LKoW3y3TEBQ
Using every single underhand excuse to sell this crock of ****, including some arguing that Mr Patterson's wife took her own life so give him a break. This is beyond disgusting, it's an open and shut case. No one put a gun to his head to do what he did. Let's not forget how they handled their Tory chum guilty of sexual harassment only last week. Yet folk will still keep voting for em.
Don't also forget that Patterson has implied his wifes suicide was contributed to by this enquiry. I think that's a very low thing to say given the case is blatant and persistent. I have an ever increasing loathing for this government and lets not be surprised that this case leads to a changing of the process, the rules and the arbiters. All in the name of justice, that just happens to give benefit to those who break the rules most from within the tory ranks.
Bunch of *****!! I believe the saying is "look after your own", whilst the rest of us have to toe the line no matter what!!
I suspect the reasoning for this move is to prevent the right of recall and a possible by-election (though he did have a majority of nearly 23,000).
This is a new low point for Tory sleaze. That Patterson should make capital of his wife's suicide to save his skin is beneath contempt and dishonors her memory.
The Good Law Project are unearthing so much sleaze and potential criminality linked to the Covid response and the dodgy procurement process. This lot are trying to insulate themselves.
Watched The Politics Program on the BBC today and low and behold that far-right MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge Mirian Cotes was on defending Patterson saying he was harshly dealt with and would be voting for the amendment. The Penistone constituency includes Penistone, Dodworth, Silkstone, Silkstone Common, Parts of Worsborough and meany more little villages in our part of the world, if any of you voted for this let the sewer flow into our rivers MP. want to hang their heads in shame as we now are becoming the laughing stock of the world.
Jolyon Maugham and his fellow QCs are doing a great job, I agree. Good to see they made progress to make the govt publish the VIP lane beneficiaries who went on to be given contracts. And Randox have certainly benefitted. I recall a documentary earlier in the pandemic that showed the inner workings and how much of a shambles it was when it came to covid testing. I genuinely don't understand where anybody can find a position to speak for and agree with this government in the way it conducts its business.
It seems its a done deal. The tories, well, the givernment actually have instructed the vote to be whipped, so once the speaker selected the amendment, Paterson is now in a position to be given an appeal, with a different committee, and hope a different result is given.
In other news…. Due to those foreign workers going back to their own country, British pork producers are set to begin sending pigs to the Netherlands for butchering and packing. Meat exported in this way cannot to be labelled as British pork for UK sale. Let the hard-of-thinking get their heads around that one.
I thought it was Cates as I saw a small clip. It is unbelievable the number of people in Dodworth who voted for her. Many are now regretting it, but 2 years too late.
Mogg says he believes in appeals processes. However his party are constantly attacking the legal system, specifically the appeals court. Their attacks on our judiciary have been a disgrace. Ordinary folk have been priced out of justice due to their "reforms". Let's not forget our PM is currently paying to keep some of his extramarital bedroom activities secret.
I don't know if others noticed this, but there was research done into the 2019 GE results and it found 25 seats were likely saved from changing from Labour to Tory because of the Brexit Party contesting the seat. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if all of the constituencies within the Barnsley Borough turn blue at the next time of a GE.
I see Labour's been hacked, looks like members details may have been lifted. What also is worrying is affiliated member details could also have been lifted. Let's just say if you were ever to create a new Maggie style blacklist, then this data would be useful for an aspiring authoritarian government.
Mogg has also intentionally run the time down for the debate by taking constant questions in his introduction. And when it's been highlighted, his usual snidey smirk.
