Hutton's silence to date has focused attention on him as one of those central to the obfuscation by YCCC. His statement puts things in a different context and he's certainly not holding back within it. Those wanting to keep things under wraps have basically shot themselves in the foot. I doubt it was in their plans for it to become the main headline on both sport and non-sport news coverage, and for pretty much every financial hit the club could take (loss of sponsors, internationals, etc) to have been triggered ahead of this.
TBF to the bloke, It appears it's more on principle, aimed at the directors for not acting on the issue. More heads at that level need to roll. Their inactions have cost the club dearly. I cant see em coming back from this for a long time to come.
I agree. The surprising aspect of his resignation statement, to me, is that he's held his silence and received the direct brunt of the criticism to date on the basis of his position as Chairman, yet he's part of a section of the Board who are critical of the club's course of action on this. Time may tell a different story, as more facts emerge, but taking this at face value for now presents a different picture of the behind the scenes events than I initially expected. Looks like we'll get a series of non-exec resignations today from those aligned with Hutton, and immense pressure on anyone else remaining, particularly the exec directors to quit. I sense that they will put up more of a fight, as the finger is very much being directed at them now.
I don't think the right people are being punished here. At the end of the day what have supporters of Yorkshire Cricket done wrong. It's denying the people of Yorkshire chance to see international cricket at Headingley.
It's only the same as when football nations have to play games behind closed doors. It's nearly always a small minority that ruin it for everyone else.
Not really. He's blamed the ECB, the board and management. He just couldn't persuade them to do the right thing haha! Classic not my fault stuff.
Is the delay in things because the racist remarks were both ways. I have heard they called each other unpleasant names
They're all going to end up dropping each other in it to try and limit the damage their own reputation, they certainly can't hide and protect each other anymore. Hutton trying to save face by blaming the ECB and other board members, Vaughan now implicated and Rana Naved supporting Rafiq's claim about Vaughan allegedly said. I suspect when we see the resignation of the other board members that more names will come out!
Sorry to hear about this mate. Bullying and racism has become a "culture" at YCCC for a very long time and passed from one team to the next. With the older teams members behaving the way they did, perhaps the younger team members saw that as the norm and continued it on with support from the management / coaching side. I'd be interested to know what Jason Gillespie knew during his time with the club...
If it was just name calling I doubt that there woukd be a need for an inquiry. It could be sorted out very quickly.
This should be the end of him. How stupid do you have to be to categorically deny something when there were others present who could verify the story? Or is he such an egotist that he though nobody else would dare speak out about it? There's plenty surfacing on twitter to suggest it was absolutely in character for him...
And don't forget the time he suggested Moeen Ali should be going round asking Muslim strangers if they're terrorists or not...
I’ve not read his statement yet, but as Chairman, he doesn’t have any real bigger say than anyone else. He just has to try and steer the club in the best way he can within the constraints and attitudes of the rest of the board. Quite clearly, he’s resigned and come out all guns firing - and fair enough.
