Racism is racism whether it's white on black, or black on white it's deplorable. Unfortunately it seems that for some people it's a fact of life. It needs to be stamped out wherever it is found and when it's found to be endemic in an institution, whether it's the police or YCCC steps need to be taken to make it safe for all people within that institution. YCCC clearly did not do that, they did not make examples of the perpetrators but by taking no action they condoned the behaviour. Cricket for everyone needs to be more than a slogan it needs to become a mantra. YCCC are rightly being punished for the laxity of the people in power. The question needs to be asked: why did the board tolerate it for so long? Is it perhaps that they shared the racist views? YCCC are the world's most successful cricket club and have produced some outstanding player. How many have we lost over the years because of racist attitudes?
As a Resident Race Baiter, I would say that it's fantastic that Shazhad never experienced racism at Yorkshire. Great stuff. As one of the forum's resident weirdos, how would you spin it that Rafiq and others did?
Some warped opinions on here. Bit of victim blaming for not coming forward/fighting it and a bit of equating one episode of being racially abused in your lifetime to knowing exactly what it's like to live in a BAME person's shoes.
Not long I imagine. Yorkshire ccc are losing sponsorship etc in droves. Investigated by the ECB. Lost test cricket. The 100. Rightly so. Until it puts its house in order. Others will follow I believe. Football has tried to put its house in order. Teams are made up of various nationalities, crede and colour. It is not predominantly a white game anymore. Fans are another matter. We still have a long way to go to get anywhere near eliminating racists from the terraces. So much so. I believe it will never happen sadly. Regardless of education. As the saying goes. " you can't educate pork."
But if what Ballance said to Rafiq is racist. Isn't what rafiq called Ballance racist. 6 of one half a dozen of the other if you ask me but yet tv media doesn't seem to give both sides for some left wing reasons. And the P word is it racist or should us Brits start using the racist card for them shortening our title. Just saying
I'm always happy to sit and listen to anyone struggling with their mental health if you need a stranger to vent to. I've been through it myself(still do, I don't think you're ever totally "cured"), so know what you are going though...
Come on, think really hard and you can work out the difference between p*ki and brit, I believe in you.
I'm not sure if this post is a wind up or not, but "Brit" and "P*cki" are not at all the same. At no point has the term "Brit" been used as an aggressive insult to abuse and belittle an entire race of people(often wrongly, and those of Indian, Bangaldeshi, Sri Lankan and more get called it too). I'm a big believer that racism can go both ways, but the Brit/P*cki comparison is just daft and clutching at straws.
Ballance was called a "zimbo" by all accounts but that is not believed to be used in an offensive way like the P word is. A bit like calling someone a Brit, Scot or Aussie, theyre not really used in a pejorative way.
I've had exchanges on instagram this week with two people who don't recognise p**i as being racist. One English and one who appears to be Hindhu. There's a long way to go!
Don't be stupid. You know full well that the terms Brit and P**i are used in entirely different contexts or if you don't then I doubt your intellectual ability to tie your shoes in the morning. I suspect you do though.
it wasn’t really Ballance that he was talking about though, it sounds like they were big buddies and there was a lot of give and take between them (even tough it’s only Ballances comments that are being touted as racist by the media.) It was the other more endemic stuff within the club
Ballance says he was called a "Zimbo". It's not a term I have ever heard, but Ballance said it was a racist term to him.
I remember a few years ago being at an away game at either Forest or Derby when our fans were chanting “I’d rather be a paki than a scab”. Totally shameful. Have those people changed their views? If not there is a race problem not just in Barnsley but everywhere. Racism makes people uncomfortable and unhappy in their life and their place of work. It causes mental health problems and feelings of rejection. Nobody of my generation can say they were never racist, but some of us have learned to be better than that. Face it racism is a thing.
Isn't Zimbo just the equivalent of Brit or Aussie? A friendly shortening of the nationality. If anyone thinks that's the equivalent of calling someone a pàkí then they're either thick or racist. or both
I have. I'll be honest and remember singing that song(but "blade" instead of "scab") when I was about 16 and thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever heard. I was a prize one ***** and feel nothing but shame when I think back on it.
