We have done, thanks. Partly because we'll wear a mask when an establishment asks that we do; out of simple courtesy because they've asked, a desire to protect ourselves and a consideration towards others. Courteous and considerate clearly not part of your make-up. Let's hope jordy is 'laughing his ass off' if he or anyone dear to him catches covid, eh readers?
Spot on, but all remnants of debate with her have long since disappeared, she's completely immune to logic, facts, and concern for others. We've given up trying to influence her. The fact that she can hardly go anywhere in Hamburg seems to have escaped her notice.
Really you can’t go wrong. Small place with everything in walking distance. You’ll have had a look no doubt – Wawel Hill, Sukiennce, Jewish Quarter, St Mary’s church etc. Auschwitz is about half an hour away. The Salt mines are well worth a look – an underground cathedral carved out of salt. Have a wander around the Planty, the park that rings the City. The Christmas market will be on, so you can sort your Christmas shopping. If you’re lucky it will snow and that transforms the whole city into some fairy tale landscape. Snap’s brilliant – pierogi, bigos, duck. My favourite was the mug of dripping with pork crackling in for starters. All used to be dirt cheap although it’s a few years since I’ve been.
Flew recently & I’d say the majority followed the rules. They announced several times over the tannoy for people to not stand in the aisles queueing for the toilet & for people to wear masks at all times when not eating or drinking & there were a few arseholes ignoring them. There was a man with his mask under his chin talking to a woman without a mask on queueing for the toilet whilst the stewardess was stood next to them announcing this & they still ignored her & she had to struggle to get past them. They also asked us to remain seated when we landed & to leave a row at a time but obviously some found this too hard to comprehend. My favourite moment was the bloke behind me getting up before his row was called & getting a rucksack round the back of his head from the passenger next to me who didn’t know he was stood up. I don’t know why but it always seems to be middle aged blokes who are the biggest idiots travelling. Never any patience, moaning about kids making a noise, pushing to the front of queues, not wanting to wear a mask etc.
On the other hand, there was very little evidence of masks, quarantining or social distancing amongst the elite at COP26. Makes you think, doesn't it?
No, there was plenty of masking up by the elite, with one notable exception from our fraud of a PM. But yes, it does make you think......I think those that didn't wear masks are utter *****
It's a good while since I visited but had a really good time. No idea if its still there, but there was a restaurant at the top of old town near the old city gate that was down some stairs and was a bit of a cavern. Had a delicious meal of roast boar. Don't know if it's still there, but I'm sure tripadvisor will sort you out. Some of the stuff there is quite sobering, and Auschwitz, if you've never been before... it's really something else and not in a good way. A must do, but its certainly not a tourist attraction, more something to help us all realise what evil looks like. Have a great time though, very envious. There are some fabulous cities in Poland. Gdansk might well be my favourite.
We ventured out at the weekend for the first time in 5 weeks. I've got to say, I was shocked. We went on the train for about 4 stops and couldn't believe how few were wearing masks. Just 2 months ago I'd have put compliance at around 70%. From that journey, I'd say maybe 15-20% were adhering to it, and some of those not properly. I couldn't see a pattern of age, gender, race. It seemed to cross all spectrums. No patience getting on or off, no distancing, it wasn't good at all. We've decided to double mask if we go on public transport, but with so few adhering to TFL rules, and some people too inconvenienced to even cover their mouths when they coughed, I think we might have to give that a miss unless we absolutely have to make a journey.
And it's these tw@ts who'll moan & whinge like fck if we have another lockdown but are prepared to do nothing to avoid one.
Logically, that doesn’t make sense though. As masks protect others, you are more likely to now catch Covid being around people who don’t wear masks than when you were around people who did wear one. If anything, the need for you to wear one (to protect others) is greater than before as you are now more likely to catch it and therefore pass it on.
It may be slightly illogical but I do understand it. I have worked with a few hundred people throughout the whole Pandemic. More recently going to Oakwell and out drinking in crowded pubs ect. I suppose been around the "old normal" more of the time just makes you more relaxed about it. I have friends who have essentially worked from home since April 2020 and some of them were genuinely shocked to go out and see people just basically going back to normal.
If you watch the footage, it was bordering on stupid. Both Merkel and Macron, got out of their car, put their masks on outside, then when they got inside and shook hands with a few folk, took off their masks. As for masks, each to their own for me. Zero scientific evidence to show they work. Surgeons dont even wear them in theatre for infection control as they can't stop viral particles from passing through. Leading surgeon on the news this week said they only wear them to prevent blood splashing onto their faces. They probably do more harm than good IMO acting as grime and germ collectors. Then the number discarded onto our streets, hardly hygienic. But if people feel some sort of peace of mind wearing them that is fine, plus I'd wear one is specifically requested to do so regardless of what I think of them.
